Most comfortable house.Great, we were 2 children and 7 adults. Wonderful holiday.
The drive to the house was longer than I expected. But the house was more beautiful than I expected. We had three generations, and we all enjoyed Casa la Selva.

Absolute perfection!
I recommend Casa La Selva as highly as possible! We were a party of 7, two families with college age kids. Everyone enjoyed the stay. Our time in Umbria was absolutely perfect due to this great respite between the hectic pace of Venice and our journey further south to busy Rome. This is the perfect place to simply relax. We read, hiked, took runs, played cards, swam and made some exceptional meals in the well equipped kitchen. The location is also close to Cortina and Assisi and we visited both. There are several areas to dine in the villa and we had our own progressive dinner parties! I'd suggest stocking up on groceries and wine at the COOP in Umbertide (don't forget water, soap and TP, as we did). The pool is beautiful with all the towels and chairs you need to relax in splendor. The sounds of many different kinds of birds was as intoxicating as the exceptionally reasonable wine we enjoyed throughout our stay. Both the owner and the property care takers are friendly and helpful. This is a secluded villa in the hills which means you need to go up a dirt road. It is very passable and I mention this only to let you know that you will be more than rewarded at the end of your journey. We could not have imagined any place more magical.

Fabulous Holiday!
Driving from England we met up with our friends from the USA and arrived at Casa la Selva. What a delight! The 5km drive along a gravel road paid huge dividends as we felt lost in the middle of beautiful Umbrian countryside, but stayed in the lap of luxury. Almost everything we could have wanted was provided and the added bonus of being able to order groceries in advance was icing on the cake (great choice of wine, too!). Our teenagers didn't appreciate the poor wi-fi though! We would have no hesitation in recommending Casa la Selva to others. Thank you!

Thanks for your review. We took notice of your comment re the Wi-Fi and have now upgraded to a satellite service which is great. We have used it during our stays this year and are very happy with it.
We also now have a wireless speaker if guests want to play their own music.

FIreflies and Stargazing
Casa La Selva is a place where you can really relax, unwind and enjoy the beautiful climate, scenery and food of this relatively untouristed part of Italy. The villa is large and spacious, with plenty of areas inside and out to enjoy - if you can drag yourself away from the pool. Perfect to book out for a large family get-together or share with a group of friends, we spent our days making sorties to the local markets, restaurants and sights of Tuscany and Umbria before re-grouping in the evening to enjoy drinks and home cooked meals on one of the terraces. As night fell we were accompanied by the magical sight of fireflies zipping through the trees and enjoyed the most amazing canopy of stars, free from light pollution. A true stargazers paradise. The small local town has excellent supermarkets with quality fresh produce and a good selection of local wines - all reasonably priced too. A bonus for those volunteering to do ‘the shop’ is the scenic drive down the hill side and a stop for expresso and gelato on the way back. Plenty of excellent restaurants to be found - our favourites were Nonna Gelsa in Umbertide and La Loggetta in Cortona. Perugia is also a great place to wander around and dine - especially if you time your visit for the Umbria Jazz festival in July. There are some good cycling routes for both on and off-roaders - just make sure you leave plenty of water and energy for the climb back up! Highly recommended whether you idea of fun is to be active and explore... or just to relax all day by the pool.

Idyllic Retreat
This really is a wonderful gem of a place, set on a hill against fabulous views. The accommodation is flexible and very comfortably set up. All the indoor rooms are spacious, with plenty of room to expand and relax; really important with a larger group. The house boasts many indoor and outdoor eating areas, so you can follow the weather or find shade throughout the day; the roof terraces are particularly spectacular in the evenings. The kitchen is also nicely sized, a lovely 'social' space and amply equipped. The pool is well situated and a good size. It really does feel like everything has been thought of and, if you need anything, the local contact for the house is extremely helpful and friendly. Being on the Umbria/Tuscany border, it is well placed as a base to explore the attractions of the area, whether those known tourist spots or quiet, unspoilt countryside and villages. Eating out is easy too; information at the house can help with this. There are supermarkets in the local area for stocking up the larder and many of the local towns and villages have lovely markets with local produce. It really was a great place to use as a base for exploring the area, having fun by the pool or just relaxing; we found something for everyone!

As good as it gets this side of heaven.
Aaaaah, bliss! So good I never go anywhere else now, La Selva is everything it promises to be - and much more. Locanda Nonna Gelsa's cooking is to die for. The location of the villa is absolutely tranquil, and the towns in the region provide everything expected of Tuscany/Umbria. I would recommend a holiday here to anyone - so long as they don't book when I want to go!
