Our family group of 4 stayed from mid June to early July 2016, and it was perfect, just what we hoped for. The property is exactly as described, and the villa was exactly as per the photos on Trip advisor.
We flew into Cantania, where we hired car and drove to the villa. Drive was couple of hours but if you go on the motorway its about an hour and fifteen minutes. Luckily Sandra met us in Sampieri and we followed her to the villa, as it would have been difficult to find for the first time otherwise. The villa is in a lovely quiet rural area surrounded by farmland (although there are views to the sea beyond the pool area), so you will definitely need to hire a car.
When we arrived Sandra spent time settling us in and told us how everything worked, as well as the nearest places to stock up on food etc. Everything you might need is at the villa, including hairdryer, iron beach towels etc. so won't need to carry any of that with you, which is great. Everything was also spotlessly clean and the beds were all made up with clean towels at the ready for us, as well as some lovely local snacks to welcome us. The kitchen is really well equipped with everything you may need, and there is barbecue as well as a proper old style pizza/ bread oven if you were feeling adventurous. Both bathrooms are great but the shower downstairs is wonderful!
Overall the villa really felt very welcoming and we felt immediately at home - even more so when met Angelino, Sandra and Salvatore's small dog, who usually stays at the villa and when there are no guests. We asked if he would be allowed to stay with us and luckily Sandra said it was ok, so we had wonderful time with him, especially as we were all missing our own dog back home in London. Such a sweet, loving, gentle and clever dog, we are really missing him! If you love dogs then definitely see if you can have Angelino stay with you.
Outside the villa the pool is amazing and really big, so you can really get some great exercise as well as simply sunbathing. Salvatore kept it really clean too which was fantastic. There are lots of terraces at the villa to sit out on but we tended to always use the one by the front door, and we ate out there for breakfast lunch and dinner! The whole area close around the villa is full of some amazing plants and cacti, Salvatore has dome amazing job not just renovating the villa but really thinking about the planting - we were lucky enough to see the cacti blooming at night which attracted some beautiful hawk moths.
Sandra and Salvatore were both incredibly helpful - Sandra would always get straight back to me with I messaged about anything, and they both had lots of great suggestions of where to eat and beaches to go etc. We didn't manage to visit them all, but maybe next time! Scicli is lovely old town, make sure you go in the evening when it really comes to life. There are number of really nice beaches to explore nearby, if you want a change from the pool.
We would definitely recommend La Casa di Sandra, it ticked all the boxes for us and we could not have wished for a better laid back and relaxed stay. Thank you so much for making us so welcome, we really loved it.
PS please give Angelino big cuddles from us!! xxxx
