This was my first visit to Italy, and I really could not have been happier. The apartment had everything I could have asked for; it is quiet and peaceful, and set in a stunning location, with a fantastic Tuscan panorama of olive groves, fields and buildings which could have come out of the 17th Century. Lucia and Rino were wonderful hosts, very welcoming when I arrived, more than happy to advise me on the area and provide all the help I could wish for.
My partner and I went horse riding at the local stables, and it was like entering a scene from Gladiator (I found out afterwards that the scene where Maximus rides home was filmed just a few kilometres away in Val d'Orcia). Much of the local area around Murlo looks like it hasn't changed in hundreds of years, and simply walking around viewing the scenery is a wonderful experience.
The nearby thermal springs were also a real treat, especially in the cooler winter evenings.
Vescovado di Murlo is just half an hour drive away from the beautiful city of Siena, famous for its contrade and their competition in the Palio each year, I immediately fell in love with the city, and have returned at least ten times since this first visit. From the apartment you can also reach Florence in an hour and a half by car. A stunning city with an incredibly rich history; my two visits here so far will be nowhere near my last.
Overall this is a fantastic apartment where you get a real experience of Tuscany right on your doorstep. I have been back several times since and hope to return time and time again in the future. Thanks for everything Lucia and Rino!
