So ..why stay at La Pietra Grezza? It's Italy my friend and when you envision Italy you just naturally see wine and food.
First off ... Alberto's home is right smack dab in central Tuscany. Walk, run, or as we prefer, drive in any direction and wall, you're in arguably the best wine and food region not only in Italy but in the world.
Hungry? Try a jar (or two) of Alberto's fig jam, that's if the fresh figs growing on La Pietra Grezza grounds are out of season. Slather it on chunks of Parmigiano Reggiano, or my favorite, Grana Padano. Wash it down with vino - Vin Santo if fine - but you're in Chianti country and the fermented grape (ova) if the Sangiovese finds home in bottles readily available everywhere - even in petrol stations.
Those are just a couple of reasons to spend time at LPG, but the best is Alberto. He greets you in the morning with a smile, "Ciao!". A smile when you return from another daily adventure in the Florentine hills and a smile again when he offers fresh plucked figs of one of Donatella's prize cakes.
We love Alberto and donatella and feel like family here. In my life only three things re certain. Death, taxes, and a return to La Pietra Grezza!
We WILL return!!!
