Good location
Apartment was as described , Ideal for a base mid way between all attractions ( Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius , Amalfi , Sorento ...) I like the self check-in and selfe check –out procedure. The only issue we had was the parking , it was difficult to find a place close to apartment. Torre Annunziata itself is a small little village that comes alive about 8 am and dies completely by 10 pm. The people there are very friendly and helpful. Good communication with the owner.

What a pity
As we arrived at the appartment, nobody was there. Okay, no problem, we wrote the owner a few days before, at which time we will arrive at the appartment, so first we thougt, the owner will be late maybe. With our luggage we were sitting in front of the house. But after 2 hours of waiting we were a bit worried! The phone-number they gave as was not working, we had no family name of the owner, so we did not know were to ring, I also sent an e-mail...so time went by and we were really worried, because we stayed in Torre Annunziata, booked and payed and nobody was there...after a long journey from Germany and with our son, it was not nice... Howewer, as I speak a little italien, I spoke to the people on the street. if they know something about the appartment. First they did not know, but then they asked other people, calling with the phone other people. Thank god for this very helpful and friendly people and thank god, that I speak a litte italian, because nobody was speaking English. Howewer, after another hour, the people spoke to the owner of the appartment and we could finally get into the appartment. It was really a big shock...they just forgot to send one mail, or something... A few words to the appartment: It was big enough, but in the second bedroom there was no space for the clothes, the small lockers were full of things and laundry from the owner. The furniture is old, that is no problem, but it really needs some more cleaning. For example in the master bedroom, there was one small dresser for socks or underwear to put in, don't use it, it was full of dust... We left the appartment in the same condition, that we found it at the arrivel! We cleaned it, we wiped it, used the vacuum for the carpet and so on...but we did not cleanded the dirt, that was there before! For example the dust, the toilet or the spots on the carpet! Howewer, our trip was not horrible, we spent a lot of tome travelling around with public transport and have seen many beautiful places, Sorrento, Amalfi, Pompeii, Napoli...you can get everywere, after walking about 15 minutes to the train station. The beach in Torre is not so beautiful, but it is okay for swimming. Torre Annunziata is a small town and it is not a touristic place at all. It is not really beautiful, but here you can see and feel the real italian life and really, the people there are very friendly and helpful. Campania is a place for holiday, that is very beautiful, but in the next time I will stay at another place and pay some more money. What a pity...

I am not surprised about this feedback. As Sabine were explained on her arrival, there was a misunderstanding regarding the self check-in procedure. A misunderstanding well explained with a bottle of wine and cheese. What I am surprised she hasn't mentioned, is the availability of my family to let her family feeling welcome and like at home. I am sorry she percieved that just from the strangers though. Furthermore Sabine was not clear about the guests number and my mother had to spend 3 days to clean the mess and the garbage they left in the house. We also had to replace a mattress becouse it was wet of wee. Probably Sabine is new on these communities and she hasn't been around much. The price you paid in August, the services offered, and the position of the house, would worth a much more efford understanding and respecting the roules of this small family business. All the best Marcello

Roomy and comfy - perfect for a family getaway
We had a very very pleasant stay in Marcello and Sabrina's apartment, and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a base mid way between all attractions. Marcello and Sabrina must have been alerted by locals of our arrival because they arrived themselves to greet us about 10 minutes after we got there! They are lovely people, and even had a bottle of wine and a local beer and some water chilling for us in the fridge - so thoughtful after a long day of travel. The apartment is very spacious - we were a mixed family of four and each felt we had enough space. One towel each was provided for us, so we had to wash these a lot. There is no real table and chair out on the balcony which is a shame as it's quite a pleasant place to sit in the evenings, and also, as we are Irish we melted every evening and felt fans would be simple, cheap, but very welcome additions! The fabulous evening breeze dies in Torre Annunziata about 9pm and the whole area becomes stiflingly hot! If you are arriving by Circumvesuviana I recommend getting off at Trecase which is closer than T.A., however, ignore Google maps path the first time, yes it might be shorter but it is full of steps, if you look at the map properly you'll see that a flat way to go is left out of the station onto Via Epitaffio, then right onto Via Vesuvio, down one block and left onto Via Vittorio Veneto. Take the third right, pass the Carabinieri and the apartment entrance will be on your right. It took us without bags about 6/7 minutes, about 10 with bags. Although T.A. is very straightforward as well (and a better kept station) it is a longer 12 minute walk - usually in blistering heat! Just check the timetable to make sure the train you want is stopping in Trecase as not all do. Be aware too that timetabling in Campania is very disorganised, schedules seemed more like guidelines than strict rules, and this is from an Irish person! Those of you from countries where services run on time may find Campania in general very frustrating - we ourselves missed several days outings for this reason. Torre Annunziata itself is a small little village that comes alive about 8pm and dies completely by 10pm - we found this a little odd, and ended up having food or wine on the balcony most nights as it can be hard to find restaurants open late (there are a few, notably the Tipicoteca almost underneath the apartment, which is lovely but a tad expensive for wine). I have reviewed the restaurants we did eat in separately if you would like a look. Definitely check out Oplonti - this is, I fear, totally overlooked for the more substantial Pompeii, but it is a totally fabulous excavation and without the hordes and hordes of people. The beach is a short walk away (look for the Tunnel through the buildings on Corso Vittorio Emanuele III called Via Porto, this leads you down to the beach a lot quicker - but have a map or a good sense of direction too!). We spent two days there, one quite pleasant but the second was a disaster due to the rubbish on the beach and in the water, such a shame really. In our week in this apartment we hiked Vesuvius, visited Pompeii, saw Oplontis, sailed to Capri, took a train to Sorrento two nights, visited all the main attractions of Naples, went to the local waterpark (Valle Dell'Orso) and spent a day wandering T.A. itself, coming home in the evening to this relatively quiet apartment block was so pleasant, and we felt very safe and comfortable there. Thanks again Marcello and Sabrina!

Great place to stay
Apartment was roomy and very clean and ideal for us. We were met by Mario who was very nice and very helpful. Ideally placed for Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius, Naples, Sorrento... Very close to the beach - about 10 min walk. Supermarket directly opposite apartment was great. Despite being in a busy area it was very quiet at night. The only issue we had was the parking. Whilst it was very cheap to park it was not always easy to find a space. We would certainly stay again and would highly recommend.

Mr
We fully agree with Trevor h's review from 2016. The apartment is spacious and clean with plenty of room for a family of four. Everything works in the kitchen and bathroom, including a washing machine which was very useful with 2 children. Balcony handy to dry washing on. The supermarket opposite was very handy and we found a couple of good pizzerias on the main street. Enjoyed a few afternoons on the beach, which was sandy and pretty clean. We used the local trains to go to Pompeii and Naples, it's a short walk to both Trecase and Torre Annunciata stations from the apartment. We also went to Rome on the fast train for a day, pre booking the tickets in England and paying under 100euro for 2 adults and 2 children. The Colosseum is only a short walk from the station in Rome. We hired a car and in hindsight, it would have been easier to just use the trains. This was due to great difficulties with parking, both in the immediate vicinity of the apartment and in the wider area, including Sorrento. The driving in this area takes some getting used to and is not for the faint hearted!! It reminded us of driving through Bombay!! Mario welcomed us at the apartment when we arrived and was able to explain the basics to us and gave us his contact number. His grown up children speak very good English, so they would be able to help if you had any problems during your stay. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Hi Anna Marie Unfortunately this issue happened because there was a miss communication between me and my mother due an emergency at my workplace. I am sorry if she couldn’t come to pick you up at Trecase station. She had luck finding a parking during the rush hour close by the flat. She thought it was better don’t move the car and have more time to explain house’s featuring once you would meet. She also was sure you could easily reach the place using Google map or other GPS navigation device. I want apologized for her as well. However the transport from the station is an extra service we might provide when people are having difficulties. My mother called you twice wondering whether any problem occurred but you didn’t reply. I think she was more than kind spending at least 45 min once you arrived satisfying your requests. As other guests’ review can confirm the apartment is fully provided of an adequate and functional cooking equipment as well as pots, frying pans, bowls, cutlery and several size lids. Soon we will build a new kitchen with microwave and kettle as well. Thank you to let us noticed it. You couldn’t find touristic magazines or sightseen leaflets because previous guests didn’t understand they were just for consultation and they took it. We will replace it as well. However with a free Wi-Fi in the apartment is pretty much easy check online whatever you like. Warm Regards Marcello Machine

Real Italy
The accommodation is situated at Torre Annunziata, between Naples and Sorrento. The easiest form of travel is the 'there and back' Circumvesuviana train that costs just 2 Euro to Trecase station or 2.60 to Torre Annunziata from the main train station 'Garibaldi' in Naples. The train also gives access to Herculaneum, Pompeii, (both walking distance from the stops - don't be conned into a taxi ride!) and Vesuvius (taxi useful but save costs by hanging about and sharing with someone else making the pilgrimage). A day in Naples and the underground water reservoirs and Roman ruins below San Lorenzo Maggiore is unmissable as is a boat trip to Ischia. If you have not been to Capri I suppose it has to be on the list but don't overlook Ischia! Usual warnings in Naples (as in any big city) - watch your purse. We used both the stop at Torre Annunziata and Trecase but be aware that not all trains stop at Trecase. Trecase is a 10 minute walk, T. Annunziata is 15 minutes but both are pleasant and tickets available at both stops. In booking a holiday we actively look for the cheapest there is whilst keeping an eye on accessibility as we don't usually hire a car. Buses, trains, Metro and walking. So far, and over the past 20 years, cheap has meant good value, new people trying to get their property known rather than poor quality. Don't be afraid to use this method - and if it really is poor then slate it on a feedback site. (But bear in mind that what may be poor accommodation for you might just be a really inspired effort by someone else!!) If you want to experience the true Italy then this accommodation is for you. It's not full of shops selling souvenirs, it doesn't have 'English spoken' in every window - in fact not in any window. It is a small town with supermarkets (one directly opposite the apartment), a great steak bar (with a fantastic vegetarian range on offer) and a talented hairdresser (Parrucchieri Esposito). Both the hairdresser and the steak bar are less than five minutes walk on the Via Vittorio Veneto. (Turn right at the top of the road. The steak bar is about 50 yards on the right, the hairdresser 250 yards on the left). Walk further on, just past the train station, to Villa Poppea - stunning, and very intact remains, from the devastating Vesuvius erruption in AD79. The accommodation is spacious, very clean, and is the perfect base for seeing this area. it is situated in a block of residential apartments, not holiday accommodation, and is accessed by a very clean entrance hall and lift. The place is secure and very private. The facilities are functional and charming as it is clearly used by the owner - if only on a part-time basis. Arrangements for collecting and returning the keys were perfect and, with the owner speaking good English (and his dad being keen to offer true Italian hospitality), there is a feeling that, despite the language barrier, there was suppprt available if needed. The downside? The Italians have formulated the most complex system for rubbish disposal anywhere in the world but there is a helpful note on the fridge as to what day a particular type of waste is collected - miss the designated day and you are stuck with it until it's time comes around again. This does not mean that the streets are used as a dumping ground - far from it - they are hand swept daily. Although this small place is clearly little more than a name on a station platform for most travellers with other destinations in sight it should not be overlooked. The beach is, like every other bit of Italy, mostly given to commercial enterprise with decking, sun loungers and parasols but there is a large area at one end that remains public. It is sandy (not everywhere is!) and has no more detritus than any other beach. At the end of May, mid afternoon, when the sand was too hot to walk on, I was one of only a handful of people on the beach so no issues with finding space for even the largest of towels. This very reasonably priced appartment gives everything one could need. It's not flash and it is clearly a part time home but it is perfectly placed to access every possible destination yet, every evening, you return to a bit of 'proper Italy' and the warmest people (in my opinion) in the world.

mag 30 Dear Travor and Mandy I have finished to read your review right now. I'm literally impressed and you can't immagine how much joy and gratitude I want express to you. Your description has been so detailed and explanatory that sounds like something written by a friend or a person that use to live there. By the time we use to rent the flat, It's first time that foreign people in so little time, were able to catch so much of Napolitan culture and express consecutively. As you could see, our territory is full of beautiful places as well as full of contradictions which don't help into increase its reputation. Myself and my family aim is to give our small contribute in a reevaluation of the "good" areas that deserve to be visited, offering an affordable and trustable service. I want to say many thanks from them as well and I would like to keep in touch in future. If you would like to visit again us, I can guarantee a special offert for you. Warm Regards Marcello
