Villa Gio is one of those places that you want to keep to yourself.
We (2 couples) spent 3 nights in this amazing estate (no other words suit). The house is clean, comfortable, well laid out and provided us with a real home with a wonderful atmosphere. The beds are comfortable, there are plenty of towels and even robes and slippers. The kitchen is furnished with every possible dish/pot/pan/knife/glasses – everything you need to cook real meals, should you be so inclined. There is also a working brick barbeque outside. Gio was kind enough to provide lovely food for breakfast, including fresh fruits and veggies that were arranged so beautifully we had to photograph them. One chilly night we cooked and then sat around the fire place, never wanting the evening to end. Every detail has been thought out with the guests' comfort in mind.
But as wonderful as the house is, it is the setting of the place that is like no other. The house is nestled amongst the rugged hills, the open sea on view for miles and miles from every room of the house. Every now and then a ferry or sail boat will cross the sea . The surroundings are so quiet you can actually hear the waves on the rocks far below, and the occasional call of the sea gulls, which seem to "speak" a different language in Ischia. It is a dream world, seriously. And I haven't mentioned the outdoor Jacuzzi, which sits in its own garden, open to the sea but protected by a giant rock and trees. Did I say a dream?
Gio, the owner, is a very warm and generous host and it is obvious that he genuinely wants his guests to have the best possible experience. He met us at the ferry port, which was a good thing as the GPS in our rental car would not have found the secret turnoffs to the property. He gave us some good tips regarding local restaurants (not all open in early April, but there are some), directions to the really great local supermarket in Forio, and was always available by Whatsapp for any question. There is fast WIFI in the house, but cell phone service is spotty.(it is, after all, on a cliff overlooking the sea and once you are here you are probably not going to want to talk to ANYONE anyway). Gio was even kind enough to come over specifically to fill the Jacuzzi for us so that we could use it for the first time this season. Check in and check out were perfect, as was our entire experience.
There are many holiday places that we have wanted to re-visit, but this one takes the cake. Don't hesitate. You deserve this. Arivederci, Gio.
