If you are looking for a safe and friendly area near lots of activities and golf, Diamondhead is for you. We lived in Diamondhead part-time for ten years. Now, we want to spend several months there per year and we rented Geographer's Cottage to try it out before renting it long-term. First, the PROS. The house is well-stocked with lots of towels, pots and pans, and dishes. Some canned food and non-perishables. Quiet neighborhood. Close to library, shopping, golf, walking path, pools, etc. but you will need a car. Comfortable furniture in the living room and kitchen nook. We used our laptop on the kitchen table. Wifi and television in living room were excellent! [Did not use other two televisions.] Kitchen is big and lots of counter space. CONS: The owner asked us to check in late, as the previous renters who left at 11:00 left a mess that did not allow for a 5:00 check-in. I felt sorry for her because she explained the challenges and there is only so much you can do in a six-hour clean-up. The house overall is in need of repair and regular maintenance. Pine straw in the gutters, grime around door entry and interior garage doors, flowerbeds full of weeds, mold growing on the vinyl siding, and rusty outdoor furniture. Some minor repairs included a dryer that does not shut off, dripping cold water in the hall bathroom that was turned off under the sink, a microwave over the stove that is duct-taped shut [although there is a working one on the counter], broken ice maker [but owner supplied a bag of ice],and accumulated dust in the master bedroom, first hall bedroom, and hall bathroom. No mattress pad on king bed. The hall tub had long black hair on the bottom and the floor was not clean. We were sympathetic to the homeowner, who explained the situation to us. However, with CV-19 increasing, we cleaned up ourselves with products brought from home and found around the house. We did not eat any of the open food in the refrigerator [jelly, sauces, frozen foods] but there were there nonetheless just in case.
