Went for a 5 day break with a group of business partners, In total there was 6 of us. It was a last minute holiday just to relax and enjoy the comfort of having our own villa to our selfs. After searching we found Riad Kamar was the ideal location, which stated its in the heart of Medina. From the pictures it looked very homely and secured. But we forgot the old trick in the book ‘pictures are for illustration purpose only’! I could make this into a story but will be short for future customers. We got picked up from the airport like we was told but had to pay 30euros! On the way to villa, everything looked beyond and just like how we imagined, the close we was getting to our villa our concern level was getting higher as we was going through the slums of marrakech and young boys and mens with intermadating looks and body languages. But we ignored thinking this cant be right. All of a sudden the taxi stoped. A man named mohammed came to welcome us and introducing him self as the care taker of the house and will be helping us with everything. We had to walk with all our luggages and hand bags for about 400/500 yards to the villa/riad. The smell of drain was getting to us. The last 50 yards to the entrance if the villa is a dark underground tunnel which smells of urine and sewage. And that was everyday thing, morning when we get out we had to walk through all this and evening when we come back. At times we was coming back to the villa 2/3am and it was very very uncomfortable to walk past all these gangs of boys, especially when they coming upto you to sell forbidden stuffs. Getting to the point, we very very disappointed with the location of the villa and the security of it. To think theres a man staying with us who we just met, there was no cleaning/tidying our room in the morning which we was told will b every day. No fresh towels, breakfast was a very low standard, there was only 1 lounge to relax but 2 night a we found the watchman sleeping in the sofa/bed so we couldn’t chill, even though he had his own room. On 2 occasions at 4/5am we heard the door opening and another man came to stay which was (mohammeds) brother apparently. Which he came through a secrete entrance, when we was told theres only 1 entrance and exit.Everything just didn’t seem right, there was no safe in the house to put our passports or valuables. Morning breakfast bread rolls were getting recycled to serve us again!! We ended up spending £300/£400 just on taxi fares cuz of how far we was from were originally stated. We once paid him to get us a cigarette carton which we paid him 500dhirams but cost 330dhirams and he said he cost 400 but didn’t gave our change back!! We wanted to move location the first day but we got told we have to pay the full price of 5 day stays. We even offered will pay for 1 night with out staying, or as kind gesture will pay for 2 nights stay but we wanna go but mohammed was haven’t none of it, we even called the lady (daniella) who originally was in contact with us from the original booking date but she don’t pick up her phone but only txts us. The wifi system was unbelievably bad. We was even willing to pay for the 5 days without staying 1 night but we wasn’t allowed, and we felt like we don’t have a choice. I can go on and on about the bad experience of the location and villa. To top it up when we was checking out, we got billed for a case of water which we thought was free, cuz we were told we can use the kitchen, we only had to 2 bottle of water. They charged us £19 for 6 x 1litre bottles of water!! Our villa bill was 1080euros 60euros for taxi to pick and drop off to airport and 25 euros for the water. So to convert that into pounds it was £1020.00 but for some reason we ended up paying £1090 cash, because we didn’t feel safe to pay with card so we paid in cash. So we felt robbed another £70 but we didn’t bother ask why cuz we just wanted to go back home. Overall marrakech is a beautiful place to go to and a top destination for shopping and tourism. This experience hasnt put us off to come marrakech again But avoid Riad Kamar unless you want to spend most of your money on taxi, and stay in a place that smells of drain inside and outside. Which is least of the negative parts. Am not asking for our money back or discount but it would have made up for it if we got some kind of compensation or a kind gesture when the management was aware of our experience, we feel cheated and robbed, its really sad. Love marrakech love morocco but Riad Kamar is a no go zone!!
