Clifden's premier rental - A smart country house in town, originally built in circa 1820, sympathetically renovated and designed to give a luxurious holiday experience for gatherings of family and friends, family reunions, celebrations and events.
With mature gardens, private parking, outdoor heated pool (Easter to September) + sauna, pool terrace, rain shower and outdoor kitchen with Weber BBQ, providing a self contained private holiday, while only 2 mins walk to the town square.
All 11 bedrooms are uniquely decorated and are all en suite. The extensive ground floor living rooms allow enough space for everyone to relax without being on top of each other, whether it is in the main drawing room with large turf fire, the library, the television room with large turf fire, the dining room ...

As good as it gets!
We rented this wonderful house in Connemara with friends. Owner Shane was charming and helpfull. Thouroughly enjoyed our stay in Clifden and look forward to returning to Sunnybank soon. H

Great For Friends
We stayed at Sunnybank House at the end of May. There were 20 of us, celebrating a friend's 40th birthday.
Shane, the owner, opened the pool for us- it is usually only open from June. We also used the sauna and the tennis court. The rooms were nicely furnished and we had a great time. Shane's Springer Spaniel is very friendly and made a fuss of us all.
On the down side, the kitchen could have been better eqiupped eg, more utensils and a better cooker. There should have been a music system in the main sitting room, and we would have liked a bigger T.V. There were chess sets, but they did not have all their pieces. Little things like this make a big difference when there are 20 or so of you, and you've paid several thousand Euros for the property.
We loved Clifden and the surrounding area. Having a decent week's weather helped. Highlights included lots of short walks (the tourist office has a guide), a game of Golf at Connemara's Championship course, a trip to Inishboffin, the charm and genuineness of the Irish people and a meal at Fogerty's. Great standard, well priced, lovely staff.
This property is wrongly listed. It is not a guest house any more, and would be better described as "Other Accommodation". Tripadvisor, please take note!

Expensive but worth it !
We booked sunnybank for a week in March for a family reunion. I was very hesitant about organising a self catering holiday because you feel responsible for the expectations of everyone in the party and sometimes the houses can be quite commercial by way of design and furnishings and not exactly a home from home !
We ended up booking the main house and the lodge because there were 25 of us and when we arrived we could not get over the houses.
Both houses were exceptional in terms of decor and facilities and the grounds are lovely. The main house is huge but warm and cosy and the lodge is obviously newer because it has underground heating etc., but is the same standard as a five star hotel in terms of how it is finished... great beds !!!
We were able to walk to the town in a minute which was great because we could all do our own thing. On one evening we booked a local chef to come in and cook for us all in the main house and it was brilliant and delicious and worked really well for the party.
We were also able to use the leisure centre in the local hotel which was great on rainy days !! Beware you do need cars because I dont think there is any public transport except taxis
I initially thought the rates were high but definitely well worth it especially when you divide it down by the number of people staying and you could pay less for someplace that turns out to be really grotty ! We are hoping to book again for a surprise 40th birthday party

Bar raised to the highest notch.
We booked Sunnybank House because the web site looked appealing and it could cater for our annual gathering of 20 friends (10 couples). We were astonished with the comfortable standard of accomodation, the pool, the location and the facilities. The kitchen was fine as turns were taken in the catering department, but it was a bit of a squeeze in the dining room. This did not detract from the enjoyment and camaraderie of our reunion. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds really comfortable. There is enough space downstairs with the sitting room, library (with internet access) T.V room and dining room to prevent cabin fever. Lunch in Guys, Coffee in Alcock & Browns, tea in the Abbeyglen and early evening music in any of the bars in Clifden in addition to the numerous attractions of Connemara made for fabulous memories. Sunnybank House is a wonderful location, and at a cost of €350.00 per couple for a week unbelievable value.

A great experience for the entire group of 23 people!!!
Shane and Rachael were terrific to work with. We had a group of 23 intotal with an international travel business that I run and this trip was fantastic. I had a number of people with me that had never stayed in a property like this with a group of strangers and it could not have worked out better. Sunnybank House was clean, roomy, comfortable and great to entertain the group. So positive was this experience that many of the guests want to come on the next trip that ia am planning. The property is perfectly located to allow for walking into the town of Clifden. There is great golfing just a short distance away that we enjoyed for 3 rounds. I would go back to Sunnybank House without reservation.

Fantastic place for a large group; home away from home!
We just returned from a wonderful family vacation at Sunnybank. All 21 of us loved it! There was plenty of room for us, allowing the perfect blend of togetherness and private time. The house is very well equipped, and has so much character. It was easy to pretend that we were all living in a fancy country estate! Each of the bedrooms, with its own bathroom and shower, were unique. All were comfortable. The common areas were spacious and cozy, especially in front of the peat fire! The location couldn't be better, just a short walk from the charming town of Clifden, with its many shops, restaurants, and pubs.

Great facilities both in the house and the surrounding area, perfect for friends and family.
We booked the house for my parents 50th wedding anniversary and it was ideal for a very large group with a mixture of children with varying ages.
The rooms were well equipped, tastefully decorated and clean. The snug and large sitting room was perfect for us to gather and chat which we did every night.
Clifden is a great town with fantastic shops, bars and restaurants and the location of the house was perfect.
If I could make a suggestion it would be to put a traditional dishwasher in the house as the bottle washer didnt meet our needs.

This place has the WOW factor!
We stayed here for a week with 16 friends and family for a 50th birthday. When we first walked in we were blown away by the beauty and luxury of the house and grounds. There was plenty of space for everyone and we never felt crowded. The place is so comfortable and it was very handy to have laundry facilities. We hired the recommended caterer, Gillian, for a birthday dinner. The food was to die for and she is an absolute doll! The location is superb in that you feel very secluded while at the house yet it only takes a couple of minutes to walk to town. Bottom line - it was better than we could ever have imagined!

Complete Connemara luxury!
We held our wedding in Sunnybank House, we stayed for the May bank holiday weekend with our family and we couldn't recommend it highly enough. It was the perfect venue for our special day and our family and friends were blown away by it's luxury and uniqueness. Shane the owner was the perfect host and it's location right in the heart of Clifden was excellent. We were sad to leave and definitely hope to return one day! A truly memorable stay

An Absolutely Accommodating Place!
My extended family of 28 members recently returned from our dream trip to Ireland. We spent a week in Clifden renting both Sunnybank House and Lodge. It was so good that we found a place where we could all stay together and the location of Sunnybank is ideal. It is just a few minutes walk right into town and everyday we were able to make excursions out in the surrounding areas and easily return to Sunnybank so it was a great central location to stay in to tour the area. We were met by Shane who turned out to be the most accommodating host you can imagine answering all our questions and helping us with anything that came up. He arranged for my 81 year old Father and my brothers to play in Guy's Pub several evenings and this was an experience of a lifetime for my Father. We will forever be thankful to Shane for making that happen. The accommodations were wonderful, fully equipped kitchens, beautiful decor, inviting outside areas, and comfortable bedrooms. If you are traveling with a group this is a perfect location even if you have little ones. They provided us with highchairs and baby cots as we had 3 babies in our group. We used the kitchens quite a bit as we prepared breakfast every morning and cooked out a couple of nights using the outdoor grill. We also availed ourselves of having a local person, Gillian, prepare us a meal one evening that was quite delicious. We had been out touring all day and it was wonderful to arrive back and smell the meal she had prepared for us. All in all, I have to say that Sunnybank is one of the most accommodating places that I have stayed of all my trips to Europe. My family and I very much enjoyed our stay there and I would highly recommend Sunnybank House and Lodge! Thank you Shane for everything!
