A really lovely house, full of history and interest, with lovely gardens and pool. So peaceful and relaxing. The house has everything you need and everything is very good quality. Jill and Ivan are super hosts and made us feel very welcome and popped in to check all was ok. Recommend this for an 'away from it all' break in a really lovely setting.

Outstanding property!
Had the pleasure of staying at “Le Chateau” during the Le Mans 24. The property and grounds are beautiful and perfectly maintained. The bedrooms are very large and perfectly decorated. You can just feel the history of the place as it is almost 500 years old.
Jill and Ivan are very gracious hosts and made our group of seven feel very welcomed and comfortable.
What a great base of operations while attending the races.
We can’t wait to return!

Stunning!
We stayed for a long weekend in May to watch the Moto GP and chose the house as it was close to Le Mans . We were warmly welcomed by Jill & Ivan who showed us around and left us a welcome gift of wine,beer,and snacks which was very much appreciated. The house is gorgeous, with lovely furniture and extremely well equipped with everything you could possibly need.
The garden is beautiful and we used the covered terrace for all our meals . A few brave souls in our party used the swimming pool even though the weather wasn't great when we stayed !
The beds were made up with quality linens and were very comfortable.
The location was perfect with fantastic views, we had a brilliant time at the house and were all quite sad to leave.
I would highly recommend the property and Jill & Ivan were perfect hosts.

amazing place
Stayed at the house for Classic Le Mans, could not have wished for a better place to stay. House and grounds are amazing, peaceful, everything you need will be there. The owners, Jill and Ivan are wonderful, so helpful and friendly,nothing was too much trouble.
Loved our stay and didn't want to leave

A great holiday
This is a gem of a house, tucked away in a quiet location. An easy drive down from Calais and we were met with warmth and friendliness by Jill and Ivan - who had also got in a welcome pack and a nice chilled drink. A good start! The house is huge and very well equipped with everything you could need. The garden is particularly lovely and we all enjoyed the pool and just relaxing together in the seating area there or on the patio whilst a BBQ was cooking. Beds are comfy, all linen is provided - including extra towels for swimming. Loue is just a short drive away for the daily baker and also shops and supermarkets and Le Mans is well worth a visit or two. The village is quiet - not a place for hussle bussle and the pub club party brigade. But if you are looking for a luxury retreat or base for a family holiday.....then this house has all you need.

Absolutely wonderful!
This place was our pied a terre for visiting the 2016 Le Mans Classic. The property is just far enough off the beaten track to be secluded, yet within a short drive of the main road to Le Mans.
On our day of arrival we were met by Jill and Ivan who made us immediately welcome with a refreshingly cool glass of Pimms! Next we were shown around and introduced to our bedrooms. There was lovely fresh bed linen and towels provided.
This place really wants for nothing. British 'sky' TV, quick broadband, a wonderful under cover BBQ area, basic provisions to get us started... it has it all! I have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending Le Chateau. *****

Extraordinary- a real treat!
What a wonderful welcome by Jill and Ivan! A beautiful home full of history and charm, but with everything we needed for a perfect holiday.
The garden was delightful and the eating area was perfect for both breakfast and evenings!
The village was quiet but friendly as we wandered around in the evenings,
There was easy access to Le Mans circuit and we took the tram into the centre where the old medieval town was so pretty. We would definitely stay again!

A rural gem with history
When we found Le Chateau on the Holiday Lettings website we thought we might have found a gem, when we got there we knew we had. We were welcomed by the owners Jill and Ivan who showed us round and left us to it having answered all our questions about practical matters. Another reviewer who said that the house is like a Tardis was absolutely right. One room seems to lead to another and most of the rooms are huge. The kitchen has everything you need with a gas hob and electric oven; the dining-room is oak-beamed with a refectory-style table; the two first-floor bedrooms are huge with one having a 'walk in' fireplace more oak beams and a rug-covered undulating stone floor. The three top floor bedrooms are light and spacious and for us provided a perfect 'home' for three teenage boys. The three floors are accessed by a medieval oak staircase. If you are looking for a house with a sense of history this is it and it was no surprise to learn that it was built as a home by an early bishop of Le Mans. (Now, however, it boasts two bathrooms and four inside loos!) Outside to the back and side is a lovely large private garden which overlooks fields. It makes a perfect place to play boule (provided) or enjoy the peace and quiet. There is a patio table where we ate almost every evening and enjoyed the bottles of wine left as a generous welcoming gift.
Chemire-en-Charnie is a quiet rural village but lies within easy access of Loue (about four miles) where there are shops and three supermarkets. To the north, just beyond Sile de Guillaume (spelling?) is 'La Plage' a wood-surrounded lake with a sandy beach, safe swimming, kayaking and bicycle trails (bikes to hire, though not always in the best condition) which provides more than enough to do for the most energetic youngsters. There is also good off-road walking for those with less energy. Slightly further afield is the fortress village of Sainte Suzanne which deserves its reputation as one of the most beautiful villages in France and 30 Km to the east is Le Mans which is easily accessed via the city's park & ride tram system. The medieval town is spectacular and for those with a shorter sense of history the motor museum at the Le Mans racetrack is fascinating. There is a go-cart racing track close by (Alain Proust circuit) which is very well supervised (and expensive).
As the owners say, the house isn't suitable for children or those who cannot manage stairs easily but with that caveat, we would recommend it unreservedly.

Gorgeous home from home
Le Chateau is a stunning period house that has been immaculately restored to offer the best of both worlds - a character property that oozes charm with all the comforts of a modern home. The location is tranquil with lovely views, yet stumbling distance to the village centre, and close to Loue for all the shops, water park etc and only a half hour drive to Le Mans with everything a city has to offer. We travelled with elderty parents (in their 80s) and a teenage son and we all had a great time! We spent many a happy meal in the beautiful dinning room at the huge table. The bedrooms are all large but also cosily decorated, and the bathrooms are fitted out beautifully. We found lots to do in the area - walking, cycling etc and Le Mans is a great city to walk round with plenty of good restaurants. All in all highly recommend both the area and Le Chateau.

I would like to say it was home from home ,but my home is not as a patch on The Chateau
The Chateau just got better and better as we discovered the rooms and the gardens . I must say it was not how I imagined a chateau and was a little disappointed from my first impression of the front . But it was like walking into a "tardis" . Every room was just filled with character and the facilities were great , allowing you to enjoy the best of both worlds . on the one hand a truly old French elegant house , but with modern facilities . The gardens were a tranquil haven and the old town of Le Mans was a rabbit warren of first class restaurants .
Would not hesitate in recommending The Chateau to anyone looking to find a place to unwind.
