We went to Salento because we were led to believe, by TripAdvisor, and friends, that
this part of Italy is beautiful, and well worth a visit. Mancaversa, In our opinInion, is not worth a visit, and we are very disappointed. The village is dirty and not maintained as a popular seaside resort. The beach is also very small, and not very pleasant. When we arrived in June, many of the shops and restaurants were still closed. The vlletta was acceptable, but, unfortunately without air-conditioning, or dishwasher. Some of the neighbours were very noisy. The area immediately surrounding the villa was also not very pleasant with badly kept plots of land containing refuse and building materials. We did manage to find a very nice small beach 10 minutes drive away, at Punto Suina, and the sea is absolutely wonderful. Gallipoli has a very interesting old city, which is well worth a visit. Lucia, the owner of the villetta, was very helpful and gave us a lot of useful information during our stay. Without a car, however, a stay here would be impossible.
