Within a short time of arriving we realised that there were many lizards living inside the property. Not just the odd one or two, but it seemed to us that the property was over-run with them.
They were in the kitchen sink, on the worktops and in the food preparation area. They ran freely between the lounge, downstairs bedroom, bathrooms and utility room. They seemed to live in or under the sofa. They ranged in size from very small (youngsters) to very large. They ran along defined routes between the rooms so had obviously been residing there for a long time and weren’t just visiting. We expected to see lizards outside and even the odd one inside may have been acceptable, but in such large numbers, they were most certainly not acceptable. Aside from the lizards, cockroaches were also inside the property, in fact in the downstairs bedroom. There is a child’s cot and mattress on end in the utility room where the lizards run freely, which can’t be hygienic! We felt that we couldn’t use the washing machine as it was open to lizards and cockroaches. There are no screens on the windows so we could not open them at all for fear of further creatures entering the building. The cords for the window blinds are hanging too low and are a potential choking hazard.
Some of the electrical wiring is sub-standard. Two of the light fitments are hanging out of the ceiling by a wire. Some of the sockets are not secured properly to the wall. Its impossible to use some of the equipment as they are nowhere near a socket (kitchen microwave and fan in the downstairs bedroom).
One night it rained and the roof leaked, leaving puddles of water on the upstairs bedroom floor and down the stairs. This was quite dangerous and a potential slipping hazard as the stairs are wooden and the lighting down the stairs is inadequate. The light for the upstairs bedroom could be switched on from the middle floor (so you can get up with some light from upstairs) but you could not switch the middle floor light on from the bedroom meaning you had to walk downstairs in the dark (with the hanging blind cord in the middle of the path on the stairs and the wet patches). This essentially means having to access the top floor bedroom by torchlight at night.
The outside area is not well maintained and the slabs could do with a good clean. The terrace furniture has seen better days and the broken sails from the windmill are just stacked against a wall. There is nowhere to put wet washing as only an indoor airer is provided which gets blown over in the wind.
There is some exposed electrical wiring on the terrace. The lock for the upstairs door is filthy and rusty.
Basic kitchen equipment missing (chopping board, corkscrew)
