such a beautiful tranquil place, lots of open spaces , the garden was so lovely of a night the garden came alive. lots of places to go to within 10 kilometres village nearby for food etc, lovely old Bulgarian house, with all you could want

Wonderful quiet place in the midst of Central Balkan countryside
When we booked this place for 3 weeks we were not too sure what exactly to expect. But the surprise was very positive. The house was clean (we are Swiss!) large and tastefully refurbished with great respect for nice old details yet quite practical with a fully equipped kitchen (no stove nor microwave) where we cooked almost all our meals, good beds and a great open air dining-room/lounge in the (or under the roof of the) adjacent barn - we spent hours there in the shade just relaxing and reading in the hamak and easy chairs. Shopping is possible in the nearby village shop and fresh cow milk available from the farmer. - No WiFi but decent internet access. Hiking maps are in the house. Great market in Apriltsi on Sundays. Various restaurants in easy reach. Great hiking-trails in easy reach (by car) wonderful rivers with clear water.
Elena (with her daughter and sister) made us feel very welcome, showed us around and helped us to understand the basics of the local culture which was so helpful for us being complete foreigners.
We will recommend the place to anyone who loves nature and quietness and appreciates a bit of tasteful simple life.

Philip, who wrote this review, took some of the photos which I have included in the site. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting this family.
There is now a portable electric oven in the house and there is a stove which is wood burning. It was pehaps too hot to use this during Philip's stay.

Beautiful rustic farmhouse in beautiful mountain setting.
The sympathetically restored and furnished house is located in an area of mountains but is in easy reach of a town and shops. Lovely views over the mountains and situated in its own grounds with orchard. 3 bedrooms and a modern bathroom. Cooking facilities and all you need for a comfortable stay. 15 minute walk through the woods to a nearby hotel where you can dine. Also you can use the hotel swimming pool for a small daily fee (it was 1 euro when we were there). Lots of splendid walks in the mountains through wooded areas where there were ceps and other fungi. We went bathing in a swimming hole, which was deep enough to dive into, on one walk along a small river/large stream. We didn't see any bears, although we were looking. We drove to the house, navigating with a road map, and sometimes were struggling a bit to read the Cyrillic script road signs but we still managed to get there directly. Satnav may be a help but I've never used one, so I don't know. Picking up the house keys from the local mayor's office was no problem. We had a superb family holiday.

Thank you very much for the review. We now have a housekeeper who lives in the village, meets guests at the house and who can be at the house in 10 minutes for minor problems. We are now retoring another timber frame house nearby which will be called The White House and is in silent forrest near the road from Kravenik to Apriltsi.
