Excellent pretty cottage in quiet area near church in Charminster, Dorchester close to dorchester market town
Charminster is just outside the town of Dorchester. It has a charming church and pretty walk by the stream. The village has a good shop which sells newspapers, frozen foods etc. and is very useful. Ruth's has a delightful small sitting room overlooking a pretty courtyard garden with pot plants and a shady tree. Trellis surrounds it and beyond is the owner's beautiful garden. The farmhouse pine kitchen is super. The Belling range cooker is similar to mine in Australia and a wonderful addition to a rental cottage. There are pine dressers and extremely well-stocked cupboards. Large kitchen table which accommodates 6 or 8 people easily. There is almost nothing you will need that is not here except perhaps a few microwave dishes but most renters will buy ready-made meals. Good dishwasher and a delightful touch, flowers in a jug in the hallway and on the kitchen table plus a home-made Dorset apple cake. The bathroom is downstairs with a loo and overhead shower plus basin. Next to it is an automatic front loader washing machine and clothes can be dried on an airer which is stored there. I found the summer was ideal to dry them in the courtyard. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one with a small double bed (not King or Queen size) and the other with 2 single beds. Pretty bedroom furniture including hand-upholstered chairs by Jenny. One problem if you are a light sleeper, the skylights let in light so we found a piece of cardboard sufficed. Plenty of storage with chests of drawers, wardrobe and hanging space in main bedroom. There is a loo and basin upstairs which is very useful. It is a delightful place to stay and we thoroughly recommend it. The owners are very helpful and on the spot. Parking for one car is beside the cottage and inside a walled area. Proximity to Dorchester, which has a good hospital, and the coast is ideal. It makes a wonderful base to explore Dorset. We used to live in the area and love it. My favourite item? the scented sweetness from the garden!
