Bottom line first: the place is lovely and we had a wonderful time staying there.
We are a couple which is very picky about the conditions of our stay. We cook all our food by ourselves; have bad knees and bad backs. Keep this in mind when reading the following. A more physically able-bodied couple may not have any issues with this place whatsoever:
Advantages:
• The owners are lovely people that were attentive to any request we made
• The environment is beautiful and quiet
• House is big, roomy well designed
• Kitchen is fully equipped (and we know what we are talking about)
• Location is close to the old city and has its own parking
Disadvantages:
• Power downs
• Half-sized refrigerator
• Stairway between floors
• Too soft beds on the master bedroom
• WC on the first floor are locked and opened only after requesting it specifically
Details:
The house – the house is a very big and roomy - two stories high – country house. It is totally renovated. Well lit. Beautifully designed and immaculately clean. From every window you open you see green. Grass, trees, bushes, hills of green. First floor includes the kitchen and a huge living room (with a dining table set for 8 people). There is also a WC which is locked by default. The 2nd floor has 2 bedrooms, WC and shower (no tub).
NOTE – there is a staircase leading to the second floor where the bedrooms are – so this cannot be good for people with accessibility or mobility issues.
NOTE – the WC on the first floor were locked and we had to specially request to open it since we have a knee-condition and would not like to climb the stairs each time – they agreed.
The environment and location – it is an agricultural country side. It is a turn from the village’s main road. A rustic place. The neighboring plots have horses, cows, dogs and cats which add to the experience. You have to take into consideration the occasional bug even with the windows-nets. 2 minutes by car (maybe 5 by foot) – there is the old city center. Charming to visit but don’t try to enter the old city by car. Streets are too narrow. As for stepping outside to the main attractions – Napoli, Pompeii, Vesuvius and Herculaneum are all about an hour drive away.
The garden and plantation – the owners maintain an apple plantation, olive trees, citrus trees, and a vegetable garden which we were invited to try from its produce (the basil was incredible).
The owners – are a lovely couple with (at least) two daughters – all came to greet us. The husband doesn’t speak English at all but you can see he is very attentive and tries to help. The wife can read English however she speaks very little. We communicated mainly with messages (texts, whatsapp, mails…) – it was sufficient.
The kitchen – it has everything. We were missing a microwave so the owners just went and got one for us. It has an induction stove, a full size oven and the mentioned microwave. The refrigerator is a half-sized refrigerator (like and over-sized minibar). There was no kettle or toaster. There are more than enough pots and pans for anything you will try to make (however – bring your own peeler). Produce-wise – it was stocked with pasta, tomato sauce, some sweets, olive-oil, coffee and a couple of beer bottles.
NOTE: the house suffers some electricity issue. During our 5 nights stay we had about 5 power downs – the circuit breaker broke the power and we had to step outside to the power box and pull it back up. We suspect this has to do either with the induction stove or the AC on the 2nd floor.
Bedrooms – there are 2 bedrooms, both has TVs, a tone of towels and bedsheets, covers and blankets. The master bedroom had too-soft a matrass – so we simple swapped bedrooms (we were only one couple here). One of the bedrooms had even a playing corner for kids (stocked with coloring pencils). There is an additional sofa on the second floor which may be used as a bed but we didn’t try it.
There is a washing machine inside the house and a foldable handing rack outside.
