I booked a two-night stay at La Corte de Milan for my boyfriend and I based on a description provided by the property. It provided pictures of the property and rooms (so we knew what we were expecting to see when we walked in), as well as amenities that notably included air conditioning, which is an absolute must for us when travelling.
We arrived at the property around 10:30pm and were greeted by one of the two managers (the male) who was nice and accommodating. He showed us to our room, which was absolutely nothing like the pictures posted on the site. It was one bed in the middle of a room that was essentially a warehouse-looking room (just white walls, no additional furniture besides a bedside table and a chair). Aside from this, we immediately noticed how hot the room was and inquired about the air conditioning, which they said "wasn't working". However, on further inspection, the unit looked like it hadn't been turned on in years and there was absolutely no way for the plug attached to it to reach any of the outlets in the room, as it was vaulted way above a door.
This was another thing. Aside from there being no air conditioning, there was not even a window in our room. There was a door leading to the outside, but it was something that we clearly needed to keep locked for the night and couldn't leave open to let air flow in.
This was our biggest problem with the property, but it was notably noisy in the lobby which was just steps away from all of the bedrooms, and the majority of the noise came from the staff (or so it seemed). The bathroom was also pressed up right against the rooms so you heard every single flush of a toilet, brushing of teeth, and running of water. Our door even moved whenever someone opened or shut the bathroom door.
After realizing after about an hour and half or so (mainly due to the lack of air conditioning) that we would not be able to stay there for the two nights without ruining our weekend, we walked up to reception and explained the situation to the man working (who was not the manager, just the night attendant), telling him we were extremely upset about being misled on the website about the room and the air conditioning and that we were going to check out. The man told us that we were going to have to pay the full €108 we still owed on the reservation, which was absolutely ridiculous and clearly not part of the cancellation policy. We were well aware that the cancellation policy was to be charged for the first night stay, which for us was €55. However, after being horribly misled about our entire experience (the room quality and the lack of air conditioning - essentially the two main reasons we booked a stay at this property in the first place), we didn't think we should have to pay at all, but certainly not the €108 full price of our entire reservation or even the €55 of the cancellation policy.
We asked to speak with one of the managers and because he couldn't get the male on the phone that we had checked in with, he got the other manager, the female (who is the male's sister), on the phone, and I explained the situation to her. As soon as I finished explaining why I was upset, she asked me to hand the phone back to the night manager without speaking to me. She would only talk to me through him, and when at one point he handed the phone back to me to speak with her, she hung up on me. She then called back multiple times, only willing to speak through the night manager. I have never been treated so unprofessionally in my entire life by someone who runs a business.
What I got out of the third-party communication (as the night manager's English was shaky), was that she didn't care whether or not we paid tonight because she had my credit card information from Hostel World and she was going to charge me what she wanted anyway. This was described in a very threatening manner, essentially saying that it didn't matter what we did because she had my credit card information and was going to do what she wanted to do with it. I have quite honestly never been treated with such disrespect in what should have been a professional setting.
