It dates back to the 7th century BC and is one of the most magnificent caves in Sri Lanka. The bottom of the stone has been carved into the upper reaches to keep it dry inside the five caves covered with a huge rock. In 1938, the architecture was decorated with a series of arched pillars and two-sided roof gates. Inside the cave, the ceiling (woven) has been painted in the shape and contour of the rock pendant, using complex religious patterns.
