Röcklehof im Schwarzwald I liked this place quite a lot and therefore I’ll be writing a more complete review. We stayed over from April 27 to May 2nd. We were 3 adults (one octogenarian) and two kids, ages 3 and 5. We stayed at the “Vierjahreszeiten” apartment. It has three bedrooms: a master suite with a bathroom; a large bedroom for a second couple; and a smaller bedroom with two single’s beds. The doors can be locked from the inside. The living room and kitchen are spacious and there is a bathroom with toilet and sink only; the shower is separate. The kitchen is fully furnished and comes with all utensils – there is a dishwasher (and some dishwasher pods were provided) but no microwave. There is a coffee maker (no coffee powder provided). Faucet water is good to drink. The apartment is in the 3rd floor (if you count the ground as the first) and is accessible via stairs. And I can’t forget the balcony: this gorgeous spacious area overlooking the grassy slope and brook outside. There is a divider between the balcony and the next apartment’s balcony. It is such a quiet place that you can hear the brook at all times if the windows are open. The heating system in the apartment is the steam system and controllable in each room. There is though a central fireplace (which we didn’t use) There is no shuttle, bus, or pick up service so you need a car. We drove down from Heppenheim over the weekend and the traffic wasn’t bad at all. Once in the Wolfach area the road to the farm is very narrow and tortuous, requiring a slower speed (to the annoyance of any local behind you) and caution in curves, where you can’t see if a car is coming ahead. If you are in the right road it is very easy to find the place, there is a large sign. When we went only one other apartment (in the ground floor) was occupied. Frau Bruder (the owner) met us when we got there at the end of the day and gave us a tour and how things worked. One important thing: payment is in cash at arrival or a day later. Booking is done through communication via email, and there is no credit card information involved. Aside from the room cost there other two other optional costs: a once cleaning fee (either 20 or 30 euros) and bread. It seems that breakfast can be ordered for 9-10 euro/person, but we didn’t do that. The other option provided was morning bread (“brotchen”), which you arrange with the owners how many do you want every day, if you want. Another important thing: the owners don’t speak English. My wife is German, so it was no problem. I speak little German but having a general idea about how things work there (such as through this review) helps a lot and I think that mastery of German is not needed. A quirky thing about this place is the beer vending machine. It’s in the first floor and accepts 1-euro coins. There are two choices of beer and lemonade. The bottles need to be returned to the crates by vending machine. The beers are dispensed cold and not bad at all. The owners make their own schnapps liquor and you can buy it; we just didn’t have time to look into it. This place is wonderful for kids. In the morning, sitting by the table we could see the cows in the grassy hill ahead. There are bunnies by the barn (kids can feed then with only dandelion leaves – which my kids did a lot). There are a few cats. I believe there are horses in the stable. There is a nice little playground. Mind you that at that enclave of the valley this is not the only farm. The cows are in a space that belongs to the next farm, and the fence is one of those with a low voltage wire. My kids are 3 and 5 and at that age adult supervision is required outside. By the road there is a little football field. I am not sure that petting those cats is advisable. I walked with the kids in the hills just around, by the stream, but did not look into any trails or hiking from the site. We just wanted a place with peace and quiet. Any excursions that we did required driving. We went to the Open Air Museum, Triberg falls, and Schiltach; all must see sites (and of course, downtown Wolfach). I would pass the glass store/museum in Wolfach. We made all food in the apartment so I can’t make any restaurant recommendations. Wolfach has supermarkets, gas stations, etc. some 15 min away by car. The ground floor seems to work as a reception spot in the high season and there is a veranda with tables and a site to barbecue. Another point is about trash disposal, just in case you are no familiar with: paper, plastic, glass, biodegradable stuff all go in different receptacles. Do some research because recycling is taking seriously there. My suggestion is that if you are looking for a quiet, clean, spacious and affordable place (it cost something like 75 euros/night) try to book here. Mind you that there is no laundry/washer, no gym, no pool, no newspaper, no room service, no phone (but there is wi-fi included in the nightly rate), no frills.

Tweede keer de Röcklehof bezocht (1e keer 2015) en wederom een heerlijke week gehad met onze kids van 6 en 9. Wij hadden nu ook weer het appartement ‘Blumenwiese’ wat een schitterend uitzicht heeft over het dal en volledig gelijkvloers is. Tevens een terras met veel privacy. Fam. Bruder zorgt voor een wekelijkse BBQ waarbij iedere familie voor een bijlage zorgt. Ponyrijden met beide pony’s en Frau Bruder vonden de kids super. De wekelijkse tractorfahrt met Herr Bruder waar iedereen achter in de kar zit, gaat door de landerijen en bossen. Schitterend gewoon. De boerderij zelf heeft voor de kids een speelschuur, een boomhut en twee schommels. Daarnaast wordt er bij mooi weer een glijbaan van bovenaf de heuvel baar de beek gemaakt. Etensresten brachten de kids graag naar het varken in de stal. De Röcklehof is voor iedereen die houdt van natuur en ontspanning voor de hele familie in het Scharzwald.

Große, saubere, liebevoll große und gut eingerichtete Wohnung mit ausgezeichneter Lage. Von hier aus lassen sich unzählige Ausflüge starten. Die Lage ist fantastisch ruhig. Dadurch, dass man sich allerdings etwas außerhalb der Ortschaft befindet - was überhaupt nicht schlimm ist -, sollte man schon einen fahrbaren Untersatz mitbingen. Damit man morgens nicht verhungern muss, wird ein Brötchenservice geboten mit echt leckeren Brötchen. (Spiel)Wiese, ein kleiner Bach der von Herrn Bruder gestaut werden kann ist ein Super Spielplatz für die Kinder. Ein kleiner Spielplatz und Die Pferde, Kühe und Hasen sorgen zudem dafür, dass Kinder gut beschäftigt sind - wenn man mal gerade nicht auf Achse ist.
