I would not recommend staying in these apartments – at all. This is the first time I have ever had to request a refund, even without having secured alternative accommodation. We just weren’t prepared to stay there. The problem was more with the building management (Brindley House) rather than with the booking company (a city abode) who, after approx 4 telephone calls to advise them of the filthy state of the apartment, kindly agreed to the refund. On returning the key to the building Manager (apparently called A.J.) I was appalled to find myself being “challenged” in the middle of the convenience store where the keys for the apartments are provided; as to why I felt the apartments were not clean and was advised new linen had been provided. Not wanting to be drawn into any kind of confrontation I advised A.J. that I had explained everything to the company whom I had paid for the booking. I was on my own at this time and felt his manner was quite threatening. When I requested a receipt for the return of the keys I was told I couldn’t have one which is when I rang A City Abode to advise them of the situation and that that should be very dubious of their relationship with this accommodation. The linen did indeed seem fresh but there was a host of other issues that clean linen simply wouldn’t compensate for. The shower screen in the bathroom looked like patterned glass until a closer look showed what can only be described as months of ground in dirt. My husband wiped a tissue over the bath and it was caked in orange scum. The dishwasher was full of dirty dishes (and also the culprit of an annoying bleep which we initially reported but couldn’t get any help with). The cooker was full of grease inside and on the pull down door. The kitchen cupboards were smeared with greasy finger marks. The bedroom surfaces had not been dusted – there was even a clothing sticker from a previous resident left behind. The controls on the heaters were caked with muck, the sofa’s had dirty finger marks on them and a dining table chair had what looked like a cigarette burn in it. The marks on the walls would have been bearable had it not been for so many other problems! The fact my comments over the cleanliness were challenged is a fundamental sign to me that this accommodation will not improve – they obviously seem to think it’s acceptable. Even if I was an over fussy customer (which I don’t believe I am) – cleanliness should not be something so blatantly overlooked or indeed any customer challenged in such a way that they feel intimidated. An apology at least would have been a start! To sum up - “lazy”, "intimidating" and “quick buck” – avoid at all costs!

I stayed here on a business trip to Birmingham. The apartment, which I booked as a Secret Hotel for a very reasonable rate, was large, airy and comfortable. The ensuite in one room had a lovely sunken bath and separate shower. There was a kitchen / diner / living room, 2 bedrooms (one ensuite) and one bathroom. The kitchen had everything you would need to self cater. The ceilings were high and the rooms very airy and cool. There was Sky TV, Wifi and a large Television. The only downside was that, although tea and coffee were available, there was no milk provided. The building is situated just outside of central birmingham, around 5 mins walk to Victoria Square. I would stay here again and would recommend it to anyone wanting a change from a hotel or somewhere quiet to stay on a longer basis.
