We rented bikes and did the whole trail! It was spectacular! The trail is flat so anyone can do it! Highly recommended!

Rode three sections of KVR. The section between Penticton is along the lake. First 5km is pretty rough. And need to watch for rattle snakes. One was on the trail and nearly run over by my wife.

We originally went out and intended to do a short walk, but we enjoyed it so much and went for a 10k loop instead. Will definitely return and bike a bigger portion of it!

This is going to be one of the trails that I may never forget. You come out of downtown, head through 2 blocks of residential, turn a corner and there you are on KVRT. Whoo Hoo - it is quite easy and ride back downtown is a dream. The views of the city, the lake, vineyards are simply awesome. This a must if you are in Penticton.

We hiked in two directions on two days, starting early to beat the heat. The trail is, of course, flat. It is well-maintained and has nice benches with lake views, and the occasional porta- potty. Other rail trails could learn the benefit of benches. (Are you listening, Kelowna?)
We enjoyed our hikes and will return at some point.

We walked along the lake shore to connect with the Kettle Valley Railway Trail. We walked north on the trail which in that area followed the lake closely. The trail was well graded and easily walk-able. It was very busy with runners, walkers and cyclists. A great place to get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors.

We reserved 4 bikes from Myra canyon rentals in the park. The old trestles and CPR tunnels were so much fun to navigate. The scenery was fantastic. Bring a snack have a picnic , lots of chipmunks on the trail.

The history of southern Okanagan is very facinating. The diversity in agriculture and mining and the persaverance of the people is amazing

The trail in the Myra Canyon area is in great shape. Unfortunately, the trail north and south of this area is on poor shape for recreational cyclists. There are rocks, potholes, loose gravel and loose soft sand in places. You need big knobby tires on your bike, but they may not save you from a fall, especially on the soft sandy areas. These areas of the trail are designated for multi-vehicle use, such as ATVs, which churn up the surface. Not recommended for the faint of heart!

Awesome experience even for a 58 year old in decent physical shape. August 2019 bike ride. Trail from Myra to the end of the tunnels and trestles was just fantastic! Beautiful views! The next stage to Chute Lake had some rough areas with deep water worn areas complete with sharp edged rocks...some sandy areas deep enough to cause some riding challenges. Great views of Kelowna, Peachland and Okanagan Lake, however...take some extra time to enjoy this stage. From Chute Lake thru the “Ovens” area to the area just north of the tunnel near Naramata...this stage was very challenging due to the rugged trail which was largely sandy with rough rocky areas due to the amount of motorized off-road vehicles permitted on the trail (really too bad for cyclists and hikers). No room for riding errors here, your last mistake might be troublesome, physically. From the tunnel near Naramata to Penticton was beautiful. Great segment of trail and awesome views of the area including riding among the orchards. Stop at a winery...or a few of them...Lol! We had a great time but had to ride carefully through much of the trip. Would do again.

Do you have to do the Kettle Valley Railway Trail with a tour operator, or can you simply hire bikes and do the trail on your own. Can you suggest bike hire companies

There are two different tours. One is the Kettle Valley Steam Railway which is an organised tour on the steam train and needs ideally to be booked in advance. It takes about an hour. On a totally different route is the Myra Canyon/Kettle Valley cycle trail which you can do without an organised tour. If you want to book bikes do so through Myra Canyon Bike Hire. They are based at the start of the trail and have bikes of varying sizes. They offer a good bike brand in excellent condition. Book ahead of time online. The bike trail takes about 4 hours if you stop to take photos, have a picnic etc as we did.

Hi, Ellie. What would you like to know about this attraction?
Hi, im a bit confused. How long is the trail? some people take 6 hours one way. you did 24 km return in 4 hours?
also where is it best to get on it and hire the bikes? some people say Penticton and others say Myra Canyon?
We are bit time poor and running out of time but I really want to do some of this trail.

Hi, I am not sure a quad could go on the trestle bridges. I'm afraid the wheel base might be too wide? I suggest contacting a company like Okanagan Adventure Tours to ask them.

Hi, I am looking to cycle the KVR form Osoyoos to Princeton, I would welcome any input on the condition of the trail and maybe places to stay. This would be a summer trip. I have ridden many parts of the trail and conditions vary greatly based on horse use or motorbikes, quads etc.
Thanks

A group of us are planning to bike from Midway to Penticton in 2016. What are the trail condition, to be expected. When is the best time to do this trip. Are there campgrounds or other accom. along the way.

We just spent a week in Penticton cycling the KVR however did not cycle the portion from Midway. We used our motel room as a base camp and each day struck out and did a section of the trail; Naramata Bench to the Little Tunnel (40 k round trip). The trail after the little tunnel is in poor condition and requires a mountain bike not a hybrid. Trail to Summerland (35 K round trip) a portion of this falls on the Penticton Indian Reserve and there are wild horses. We had no issues. We cycled from Pentiction to OK Falls. This portion of the trail goes along Skaha Lake. Another section we did was Oliver to Osoyoos (40 K round trip). We missed the section from OK Falls to Oliver as we had trouble finding it however found it another day while driving and for sure you can cycle from Penticton to Osoyoos and return in one day. Did not notice camping except for by Skaha Lake. There were numerous places to stop for lunch ie picnic tables, out houses and sometimes a washroom. The motels are so cheap in the fall that camping fees are probably higher (and that is the truth) however I get that you would like the camping option as it would make it an even better adventure!! Check with the Tourist Info they have maps for $2 and a complimentary magazine that outlines the 800 km of the KVR.
