Admission was $16 USD to hike into the forest approximately 1 hour each way to get to the rock hillside that elephants have carved holes into over the years with their tusks. Each hiking group is accompanied by a ranger (for protection from any animals) and a guide who explains some of the plants and sights along the way. The hike is mostly uphill (but not too steep) on the way to the caves. On the return hike, you are given an option to hike to a waterfall. Most of our group did the waterfall hike which was down a steep hillside (tall steps with some handrails). I thought the hike was worthwhile for the view of the waterfall. Of course, the return from the waterfall is back up the same hillside.

After 5 days of safaris on the bumpy roads, a great way to stretch your legs and to learn more about nature.
The guide was knowledgeable and learned us about the different plants and animals.
It was an interesting, moderate hike, approx 2 hours in total.
The hike leads you to the caves and a beautiful waterfall.

Après notre safari, nous regrettions un peu de pas avoir pu marcher un peu dans cet environnement. La sortie vers les chutes d'eau et vers "elephant cave" à parfaitement combler ce manque.
La saison des pluies a rendu la marche assez aventureuse, et nos guides (dont un ranger armé et un guide très cultivé et sympathique) nous ont beaucoup aidé à franchir les passages rendus délicats par la boue.
En cette saison, les éléphants ne s'aventurent pas trop jusque là, mais les innombrables traces de buffles et de prédateurs, ajoutées à une végétation luxuriante magnifique, ont suffit à nous faire passer une superbe matinée en famille.
Grand merci aux 3 guides qui nous ont accompagnés !

We were on an OAT Post trip from seeing the Gorillas in Rwanda, so we were already happy & feeling satisfied. That morning we had spent in a Jeep safari at Lake Manyara NP and that was an excellent experience. We were happy to just be outside & on a lovely 3 mile hike with beautiful weather. Then, our armed guide told the ranger for us to stay still for a bit while she investigated the possibility of animals up ahead. When she returned, she had us take an alternate route for a safe overlook of the caves. And to our eyes appeared the most wonderful sight! In total 9 elephants, including a couple of babies came in from all directions and put on a show for us as they slid down the embankment & wandered in & out of the caves, taking turns inside and rolling & playing in the mineral dust from the rich soil. It was an unforgettable experience and we spent more than an hour there watching. Definitely recommend this adventure. Watching the adults help the babies down the embankment was wonderful! We finished up the day with a trip to see the waterfalls. It is a gorgeous area, but be prepared for a fairly intensive hike down to see them and then back up to the Park entrance. The guides are excellent, they pointed out all types of different flora & fauna along the way.

Der gut 2-stündige Walk zu den Elefantenhöhlen war spannend und informativ. Wir haben es sehr genossen und als wir dann auch die Elefanten an den Höhlen ausmachen konnten (was nicht immer so ist), waren wir begeistert.

Took a nice 3 mile long hike into the jungles surrounding the Ngorongoro crater and seeing the caves where the elephants get there minerals from the earth. We actually got to see two elephants very closely on foot with our armed ranger while we were heading to the caves. The tour guide and the ranger make this trip into the jungle an awesome experience. Waterfall was beautiful, but that hike was very intense up and down to see waterfall.

With a professional guide and an armed Parc Ranger this 3h walking tour brings you into the tropical rain forest and a spectacular waterfall and the elephant cave where these animals take minerals like magnesium and potassium to enforce there bones. Also to be done by birdwatchers: you here them but can hardly see them. Minimum physical condition is required for this tour, not accessible for disabled persons. No snakes or scorpions on this tour.

You go out with very knowledgeable guides to the elephant caves. The walk to the caves offer a good view of the valley below of the coffee plantation. The walk can also include, if you like, a very steep walk to the falls, well worth it, but hard for young children or seniors. The caves themselves are great when there are elephants around, but when they are not there, people can walk over to the caves and see the holes of the elephant tusks. It’s a good walk that took about an hour and a half.

到大象洞穴前需要步行約1小時。有一位具備槍械的守護園及一位說英語的響度同行。今次去看不到大象洞穴因為在洞穴外有多達30隻的水牛。今次看到大象驅趕水牛的情景， 10分緊張及難忘！因為安全理由，我們便折返。

Bring high resolution binoculars as no body can see the cave from anywhere on the path. Path itself is muddy, slippery and the entrance fee one pays, one wonders, for what?

How much did does it cost per person for the walk?

There is a Park Fee to go in. I have forgotten the amount but I think it was around $15 USD. We also paid the walking guide. I am not sure if it is worth it but it was good to get out for a walk after being in Safari trucks for several days.
