Beautiful park but so undervalued, nice to walk around in good weather. Some of the highlights include the Gorsedd Stones, ski slope and the leisure centre

Under utilised green park and wooded area. Mostly visited with people for specific reasons (such as the leisure centre or rugby matches) dog walkers who may or may not be careful with their animals. Unfortunately recently planted trees near the Eisteddfod stones at the top end of the park have been vandalised which shows the lack of interest by many in the park. The restored ponds are well worth a walk to although I have always found the Italian gardens near the town rather a let down. These days it seems left to volunteers to keep the park tidy and events are no longer sponsored by the local authority to keep interest going. Does not take long to walk through but you could spend hours with a family on a fine day especially if you take a hillside diversion as there is little else to do in the town these days.

A group of us decided to visit Pontypool park for the day on a Saturday. We car shared and parked at the Riverside multistorey carpark. We packed a huge picnic and drinks including flasks of coffee and tea, and brought an assortment of toys to keep the children amused. Some of the children wanted to bring bikes but we contacted the council prior to our visit who said that bikes were not permitted within the park.
The gated park was embroiled in history and there were several historical points of interest, including the 19th century twin ice houses near the museum, the Gorsedd Round Circle and the Shell Grotto decorated with bones and shells. The children enjoyed exploring the woodlands, the Nant y Gollen ponds, the river walk and the Italian gardens. Whist at the park we spoke to a friendly volunteer who proudly told us about the group's ongoing efforts to clear the park of litter and weeds. The park was extremely clean and looked immaculate. Facilities within the park included a dry ski slope, netball courts, a bandstand, rugby pitch with stadium, a maze, a pitch and putt area, bowls and tennis courts. There was also access to the leisure centre and children's playground. The playground was well equipped and there was lots of space to enjoy a picnic. The park was incredibly busy and we spoke to a man walking his dog who told us about the annual jazz festival, Folly Tower, the many trails and the fish that that live within the ponds. We would recommend the park if you are looking for a cheap day out or if you enjoy the great outdoors. This is a real asset to Pontypool.

I have known this park all my life and am very proud of its beauty.
It has in the past and still is today a wonderful asset to Pontypool. We need to respect and protect it for all to enjoy.

Wonderful outdoor space with lots of different areas to enjoy.
Love this park, having a play park, ski slip, leisure centre, grotto and ponds all in one is a brilliant bonus! That’s not even mentioning the Orchard, Tennis courts and skate park.
Very privileged to have this in our local area.

Staying in the area to visit friends, walked the park and got a hot drink at the active living center. Lovely open areas and nice walks, clean and well kept.

A lovely large park usually thriving with life, but the rain meant it was very quiet. Sad to see the cafe closed, offered drinks through a hatch but too cold to walk around with a coffee.

Can you camp in Pontypool Park

Sorry I haven't seen anyone camping there. As I understand all council owned parks do not permit it. Someone more local in Pontypool will give you more info. There are no signs as far as I have seen that says no camping
