Panda Valley is a must do if seeking a reasonable amount of panda sights and photos.
Caught the early HSR train from Xipu station from Chengdhu at 7.45 am with short taxi thereafter and we were at the park before 8.15am. Panda feeding was active around 8.30-9.30am and all the pandas were out (6 sightings). It was a warm day but a bit cooler in the valley for pandas. We were done by 10.30am.
Make sure your inside before the tours arrive at 8.30-9.30am en-mass.
Totally more natural experience than the Chengdhu Panda Research Base (co-run by same company).
We had to have the hotel concierge help us book a ticket (used WeChat pay link in mandarin) for AM session. We booked day before with no problems.

July weather disclaimer: It rains a lot in July in Chengdu and there was a big rainstorm with thunder and flooding. They closed down the Qingcheng mountain which included this place. Had to change travel plans and postpone two days until it was open again. So I suggest avoiding rainy season and plus summer is too hot and muggy. If you have the luxury of traveling at a cooler time of year, do it!
This place was fun. It wasn’t as big as the main one in Chengdu city center, but it felt like it was more natural, with a forest and mountain feel. It was way less crowded and the pandas more active. We arrived at 7:30 to beat the heat. The red pandas are supposed to be free range but we didn’t see one red panda in sight, even after climbing up to see them. Probably too hot. You’ll probably see them if you choose a cooler time of year. The other pandas were cute and happily munching away at their bamboo. We spent a little less than two hours there total. Quite quick but we enjoyed it. I think we saw around 7 pandas. If you go later in the day expect crowds and heat! Also, just keep in mind the whole path is on a slope. But it’s not steep at all.

Pandy Valley was well worth the extra travel time from Chengdu. It was a far more pleasant and compact experience than the Giant Panda research base in Chengdu.
We saw the Giant Panda's feeding which they do very close to opening time so make sure you are through the gates as it opens.
The Red Panda's had food placed on their feeding zones after the giant pandas were fed so there is no rush to head directly there.
The grounds themselves are lovely and peaceful.
Highly recommended

The star of this park is actually the red panda area. Arrive early and make a beeline for the red panda area where they and you free roam together.

So its a bit if a journey to get here, but as the newer baby brother of the Chengdu park it is well worth the effort. An easy stroll for all ages up the valley, frequent rest points and all the grounds are well managed. Pandas look happy and well looked after. The red pandas have a huge area to run free in. Visitors can walk through but if you are not so steady on your pins beware the path is super uneven. Top of the valley is a recently restored Qing dynasty temple. Half way up is a good coffee shop. Only 55¥ to enjoy, not over commercialized, the gifty shops are outside.

Trop de monde dès 11h du matin...à cette heure les pandas sont très peu voire pas du tout mobiles, ils sont en pleine digestion et souvent peu visibles à cause du feuillage et à cause de la foule il est difficile d'approcher de leurs enclos. Sinon le site est agréable, bien fléché, il y a des toilettes . En fait pour bien voir les pandas il faut impérativement arriver avant 10 heures du matin.

This is the third Panda facility that my wife and I visited, and I was so impressed by this facility, particularly the size and habitat for each Panda, as well as the signage, amenities, cleanliness, and organization of this Location, that it quickly has become our favorite panda bear conservation center in all of the world!
We just came from war long yesterday, and compared to that facility, the habitat enclosures here are far more conducive to a stress feet free environment for the panda bears – additionally, behind the compound or wild training areas to prepare pandas for a release back into the wilderness, and this location was right on the edge of a mountain range that seem to be perfect for Wild pandas – in fact, the red panda habitat near the top of this compound had free roaming red pandas that kept moving back-and-forth between the mountain and the facility.
Most importantly, this facility was tranquil, incredibly clean (including the bathrooms which were as good as any airport lounges bathrooms), and signage here, along with the environment for tourists, was impeccable; the best I’ve seen probably anywhere east of Germany!
The only negative aspect had nothing to do with the facility... even though there were so many signs requesting people to be silent, even during the shoulder season, many local Chinese visitors here raise their voices and even shouted very loudly: unbelievable, because you’d think that they would have more respect for their own wildlife, in a tranquil place like this.
With the amount of respect for the pandas by the staff here, I am sure that this facility does incredible rehabilitation and release work to rebuild the wild panda population in China – this is definitely the first place anybody visiting this region should come and see, if you’re interested in panda bear conservation!

We visited on the autumn moon holiday so there seemed like millions of people there. However the centre is well set up to cater for huge crowds and we managed to see most of the best sites. We only didn’t see everything because it is such a big place and we had just arrived in China the day before with not much sleep so were tired.
The nursery with the baby pandas was fascinating and there were enough adult and sub adult pandas on sight that you could photograph without people in it.

I found this visit very interesting and informative. I have always been fascinated by pandas and the Chinese are doing a great job to preserve them from extinction. It is good to know that it is extremely humid in this area.

We really enjoyed our volunteer day. Kids ages 15 and 12 loved it. Cleaned enclosures, prepared bamboo, fed panda through cage, walked throughout the beautiful, well-tended facility. Watched Interesting 1 hour documentary. Had fun in gift shop. Good, Authentic local food, buffet style, for lunch. Make sure you bring bug spray and water to drink.

hi there!
I have some questions for you please as we are travelling to Chengdu with our 9 year old who loves animals but we are confused as to which Panda base to take her to so here goes:
1. Is Panda Valley the same as the Dujiyangyan Panda Base?
2. If it is different is it worth visiting the Panda Valley instead the Chengdu Research Base?
3. If Panda Valley and The Dujiyangyan base are the same is it worth visiting if you are not going to be doing the volunteer programme (my daughter is below the age limit).
4. The whole idea here is to get to see pandas in a quiet place away from the crowds but in the natural habitat and not in cages so what do you recommend?

Going to volunteer the beginning of May. Anyone know the best way to get there ? It will just be myself and one other person, did most people find a driver in Chengdu or book one online ? We would like to be picked up and drippped back to Chengdu.

We are trying to make reservations, but they are saying we need a big form filled out by a doctor first. Is a physical enough? They have HIV tests on here and other tests for illnesses, which can be very costly. What did everyone else do?

We didn't get any of the tests done, it isn't necessary if you can get a doctor to confirm you are in good health. That's what we did.
