The locker system is faulty. one key can open multiple lockers. here they "Insist" to keep your wallets, purses, handbags in "Their" security lockers. they say its a rule. when I came back from visiting the museum and the number on the key was not clear whether it was 16 or 19 or 61, I asked the security guy to open the right locker, he said 16, i open it and the belongings were not mine !! I was shocked at how easy it was to open any other locker with one key!! neither the security nor the management takes any responsibility whatsoever for loss of cash, cards, passport, I cards ect. I believe that both the security and the management are together in this faulty system to facilitate stealing of the locker contents. I gave a written complaint in this matter to the so called core team of Hema Chauhan, Hridayansh Raj and Ayesha Gadbadu and asked for phone number, visiting card of the director of the museum. I was said she was busy and they gave a wrong email address of the person called Gayatri Singh !! they are all crooks !! Please REFUSE to deposit any of your important belongings in these lockers and if they insist ask the management to sign an agreement to compensate for any loss of your belongings. I have travelled extensively and nowhere have i seen any such rule where your purses need to be deposited in lockers. maximum is the security checks the contents physically or thru scanners and allows to carry it with you. very rare cases they might use a tie lock but never have I been asked to deposit it in lockers.

Beautiful palace, lovely gardens. What caught our eyes were these orange tinged trees which were Mandarin orange trees....never seen them so big. The museum had some breath taking rooms, with opulent things on display. Worth a visit.

Jai Villas palace is a beautiful and impressive edifice of over 400 rooms . the palace tour is extremely extensive and it will take you a whole day to see everything in detail, but a couple are hours are good if you only want to browse through. The palace is extremely well maintained and gives one a glimpse into the life of the royal family of Scindias, along with a glimpse in Maratha past, the British administrators and the majestic lifestyle of the royals of yore. Kudos to the Scindia family for taking special interest in displaying their personal items for tourists to get a glimpse into our country’s rich past. Particularly impressive are the dining room and the main hall where the world’s largest chandeliers weighing 3.5 tons each are displayed. A great experience and highly recommended!

This building is a palace/museum that used to be the residence of the Maharaja of Gwalior. Apparently the descendants of the last Maharaja still live in the palace and that part is not open to the public. The palace is a nice example of Classicism and pavilions on the roof terraces of a mix of Indo-Islamic and Victorian styles. The interiors are an eclectic mix of European and Victorian styles, especially the silver train in the banquet room, drawing rooms and chandeliers. A beautiful building to visit. Although if you don't intend to visit the museum, you can just view the palace from the outside as well.

The Palace is still lived in. The occupants are in a separate part of the house which is a very ornate building made from a mix of French English and Italian architecture.
The Palace houses a large museum covering transport and textiles and there are incredible examples of glass chandeliers in the stairways and some rooms.
One room is set out to illustrate the dinning layout of a western military dinner complete with train to transport the port and cigars around the table. It is a contrast to the Indian room.
On entry to the Palace we had to pay an additional fee for each camera or leave them in a lock box. It seems crazy as phones are allowed in for no charge!!

This is quite a place with a lot to see. 800 rupees entrance for foreigners so a little on the pricey side. Enjoyed seeing this as it was for us unexpected.

The entry fee is exorbitant 200₹ per person. The collection is good though. Main thing is Darbar hall and the chandeliers in durbar hall.
