I came for a business trip and took a taxi to Boca De Tomatlan. From their I walked towards the beach Ans was reached out by Marco Francisco. He was super helpful and kind. I wanted to go to a certain area and he recommended me a better place. But the most import part is I felt safe.

This where the river meets the ocean, and in the spot, it’s perfect for kids, unless it had rain up river then the water turns red because of the dirt.

We enjoyed a great hike from Boca de Tomatlan to Playa Las Animas. It’s a little rocky and strenuous in places, but offers beautiful views of the coastline. The beach at Las Animas is beautiful as well and there are a number of quality beachfront restaurants. My main recommendation would be to get an early start so you can enjoy the hike, spend time at the beaches along the way, and eat lunch at Las Animas. The restaurant options in Boca de Tomatlan are not as desirable.

Una excelente experiencia. Ayer visitamos la playa de Quimixto, excelente, a la que llegamos en la panga de Daniel, lanchero en Boca de Tomatlan. 120 pesos por persona de ida y otros 120 de vuelta. Yo le dejé propina, lo que siempre es agradecido. Daniel tuvo un problema con su lancha pero nos fue a buscar un lanchero amigo y nos trajo de vuelta a Boca a la hora convenida. Gracias Jari y Araceli (nombres de las lanchas). Gracias Daniel y amigo.

Quiet, fishing town, providing access to coastal areas further south by water taxi (Yelapa, Quimixto, etc) or access north to Puerto Vallarta by road (bus, taxi auto). Stores for groceries, shoes, clothing, ice cream. Restaurants, although most close early (7 or 8 PM for food, 9 PM for drinks). Hiking trail for adventurous ones leaves from BdT Beach and heads south.

This beach and it’s configuration changes yearly, depending on the rains. It is (2023) large soft sand and shallow water out quite far where the river converges.
There is many fishing pongas willing to take you anywhere you want to go. Fishing is available and the captains are very knowledgeable. There is a bait and tackle shop right in town for all of your fishing needs, BOCA BAIT & TACKLE. The owner “Neto’ has been located in Boca for over 20 years and can guide you towards a perfect setup for all your fishing needs.
There is many fishing pongas willing to take you anywhere you want to go. Fishing is available and the captains are very knowledgeable. There is a bait and tackle shop right in town for all of your fishing needs, BOCA BAIT & TACKLE. We drove to Boca de Tomatlan to catch a water taxi to Las Animas beach. The tour book described the beach as soft white sand and a very swim-able beach. The book written by Madeline Milne called “Puerto Vallarta” in 2020, said a water taxi would cost about $10.00 Cdn each return. The first fellow wanted 800 pesos which translated to $ 56 Cdn return. There was only one group of three men who were giving rides to Las Animas beach so The actual cost of the boat ride was $35.00 Cdn return for the two of us.
We decided to have lunch at the Coral restaurant. The food and service was acceptable. The beach however was large round pebbles, not soft white sand, and the waves were huge, only for an experienced swimmer. Wouldn’t you know it, there wasn’t a breeze to be had.
So all in all, it was a costly excursion for a few hours and a huge disappointment.
We could have stayed at our hotel in PV Old Town, on the beach where there’s a constant cool breeze on the soft white Sandy beach.
We decided to have lunch at the Coral restaurant. The food and service was acceptable. The beach however was large round pebbles, not soft white sand, and the waves were huge, only for an experienced swimmer. Wouldn’t you know it, there wasn’t a breeze to be had.
So all in all, it was a costly excursion for a few hours and a huge disappointment.
We could have stayed at our hotel in PV Old Town, on the beach where there’s a constant cool breeze on the soft white Sandy beach.

Easy to get to by Uber, Bus or Taxi Boca is a small village with Pangas, Water Taxi, and Fishing Boats galore... The average cost of locals taking you to the beaches away from thier Dock are 1500 pesos for a family of 5. The Joycyln seemed to be the busiest of the bunch... Remember your in Mexico so everything costs bathrooms showers to remove sand, dressing rooms and so on.
The beaches away from the dock offer food and drinks and a place to keep your items while in the water our favorite place to eat and drink was El Caracol Erwin was our host and did a 5 Star Job everything offered was 5 stars!!! Los Animas Beach itself was too bust with boats deboarding and boarding people that it kind of makes water play at your own risk... Over Beautiful Waters and Great Restaurants.
P.S. if you take an Uber get his ir her number or have arrangements for them to come get you as there are no Ubers available when it's time to leave. The Bus comes every 15 minutes is you don't mind public transportation.

loved this beach and can't wait to go back next year. loved the moderate and challenging hike to nearby beach. both had their own unique charm

Horrible ,es lo peor a mi me estafaron pagué por una lancha para Las ánimas 700 pesos mx ida con regreso me llevaron y no me regresaron,no puedo entender como lancheros en ese lugar turístico donde lo visitan tanta gente empañen la imagen del turismo en Jalisco

How many people will fit in water taxi? We are 14 and for what ive read, i will not buy private rides, and only pay for one way trip to jelapa and pay as we leave back. We are rentong a car. So should we drive to boca for the taxi instead of paying from pier at los muertos? Or rent a private from mismaloya?

The little water taxis only hold 6-8 people. You can book one way or set up return rides at Boca. We just booked one way trips and had no problems. The charge per person usually.

Not sure about bocca but found everything I needed at the tiny local grocery stores in yelapa) it's cheaper to buy in pvr abd take with you, but I like to support the local ppl

Take the orange bus from down town. 8 pesos 1 way. Goes to Bocca De Tomatlan where it stops and everyone gets off. Hike down the hill to the water taxis or beach bars. Reverse the process to get back to downtown PVR
