Doesn't Exist - Lake's Bird Sanctuary

The bird sanctuary is closed. There is no local guidance and it's a complete waste of time. Just a round trip around a lake and that's all. Nothing else that's advertised. Not sure how it's called a tourist attraction!

Beware Tourists

Pretty lake with some fun bird watching opportunities, but beware tourists! Be ready for them to try to wring you of all you’ve got! The boat dock is the worst offender.

Board with prices claimed to have a bunch of different options (kayaking, row boat, speed boat), but only motor boats were available. Perhaps that was due to time of year, so we didn’t think too much of that. But then they charged us almost double what the board said prices should be, and the man tried to keep the change (200 rupees) until we insisted on getting it back. It was pretty, but not really worth the drive/hassle in my opinion.

Huge waters but not much else

Maybe we hit a wrong time,or perhaps the changes in the water use pattern are driving away the birds, but this really didnt seem to be worth the long drive out unless you like to just sit and gaze at a man made water body with nothing else to enliven the view.

Good place but needs to be made better

Serene and calm place - but they had no boards and no boats operating. To see birds one has to go early morning - we couldn’t find the boats

Bird watching is a must

To watch the migratory birds, you need to take a boat ride. In the center of the lake, the birds are found to be flocking together. The boatman will halt the boat at specific places to enable the tourists to take photographs. Evenings are the best time to observe the birds.

No boats operating

Went specifically to bird watch - no boats operating as they were being repaired and we were told to come back another day. Very disappointing as we could not see much from the shore other than a couple of egrets.

Very calm place to visit - not for people who love typical sight-seeing spots

Ousteri lake is a very huge lake in Pondicherry. Very calm and serene. We can spot many birds here. Also, there are boats that take you boating. However, it is not maintained properly.

Not worth before monsoon

I won't advice anyone to visit this ace before november as water was very scare and so the number of birds....I went there as my daughter goes for bird watching but it was quite disappointing....it's also not maintained properly ...roads are also not good. We could see very few birds...

Just on a whim boat ride

It was so hot I wasn’t sure this was a good idea, but the boats have a roof, and the movement causes a gentle breeze, inexpensive 200inr each , but we got charged 300 as only 2 people, so we took our driver as well, the water was low so the 30 min journey was cut to 15 mins, but that was ok, will us, as you could see it was low, our driver asked all our questions and we got lots of info from the boatman ,lots of birds to be seen and a few flowers, he said June all the lotus will open, we saw one or two, tricky descent to the jetty, and the jetty was like pentagon shaped rubber which moved as you stood on it, not impossible but a helping hand is needed, good fun
