Absolutely breathtaking just to be there also a feeling of sadness after reading the plauqes on the memorial one of which has stayed in my heart ever since, it reads " you loved these mountains so much now you lie among them" almost looked magical as I looked towards the mountains and the track was covered in a mist that seemed to linger along the way beautiful however I was glad to leave

フッカー・バレー・トラックを歩き始めるとすぐ、この三角形の記念碑が見えます。トラックからは少しはづれるだけなので立ち寄ってみましょう。記念撮影スポットです。

It's just a few yards off the main trail at the beginning of the Hooker Valley Track, but nice to get a sense of history and pay tribute to people who were brave enough to check out remote places long ago. We stopped to think how different it was for these guys to even get this far back in the early part of the last century.

Unless you dying for an extra hundred meters of climb and want to be able to read the names, don't bother going up to the memorial. You can see it very well from below on the Hooker Valley Track as you return.

A lovely memorial of those that have lost their life in Aoraki National Park, at the start of the Hooker Valley Track

An interesting attraction to see shortly after setting off on the Hooker Valley Trek in Mount Cook is the Alpine Memorial which was setup to commemorate mountaineers who have lost their lives attempting to climb the peaks in the area.
The monument is a elongated pyramid made up of rough mountain stones. It is fronted with two mountaineer icepicks and sits atop a similarly constructed stone base. Upon the base of the memorial can be seen numerous small plaques with the names and dates of those who have perished upon the nearby mountains. There are a great many displayed, particularly on the backside of the memorial.
To find the memorial, there is a short, 30 second, side trail branching from he main Hooker Valley Trek. It is upon an elevated position so you'll see it when approaching from either directly. There are also signs pointing you to the memorial from the main trail as well.
