Kooyong was the venue for the Australian Open when it was played on grass. It is regarded as the Spiritual Home of Australian Tennis. Today, Kooyong has a mix of grass and synthetic courts. Kooyong is one of Melbourne's premier sporting clubs. It is also a favored venue for fuctions such as weddings. Kooyong is 8 km (5 miles) from the Melbourne CBD.

From 1972 to 1987, the Australian Open was played on grass at Kooyong. Since then, the Open has been played on a hard court at Melbourne Park. In days gone by, several Davis Cup ties were played at Kooyong. The Kooyong Classic is a lead-up tournament to the Open. Kooyong is a prosperous area, the club is a prestigious place to play tennis..

Kooyong is an affluent suburb in Melbourne's south-east. The Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club is the home of the tennis elite. It is sometimes called the home of Australian tennis. The Kooyong Classic is normally a major lead-up event for the Australian Open. In 2021, unfortuately, worries about the corona-virus have forced the tournament's cancellation. The club house offers a bar and up-market dining.

The Kooyong Classic for 2021 has been cancelled, the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club has announced. The Kooyong Classic is major lead-up event to the Australian Open. Kooyong is known as the spiritual home of Australian tennis; up until fairly recently it hosted the Australian Open. Capacity then was 15,000; now it is around 5,000. The Club is very well set up, it atracts a superior sort of tennis lover.

Beautiful lawn tennis courts, pool, gym, studio room, pro shop. Plenty of friendly staff everywhere.
We have eaten there many times in both the Hopman Bistro and the more formal Racquet Club restaurant and have never had a bad meal. The Wintergarden can be a bit noisy as they cater for larger groups. Wine list has a good range and is well priced. Waiters and waitresses are very helpful and offer excellent service. Other facilities include Pilates and Flexibility-Stretch classes which we have attended many times.

The old home of the Australian Open and the home of one of the lead up events to tournament. Love the design of the stadium and think everyone should head to the Kooyong Classic tournament once in their lifetime. Love it

First time at this event. Boutique event on run up to AO. Nice set up, easy entry. Weather conditions were 22 and overcast so not much need for our premium shaded tickets, in fact quite cool in the shade. Couple of good matches
1) Sock v Shapovalov and
2) Cilic v Verdasco
Bathrooms and food trucks on the ground level.
Would recommend if in the area and I would go again.

Attended a really lovely birthday afternoon tea celebration for a young 90 year old. Beautiful room overlooking the courts and garden. Sun streaming in the windows. Staff great, afternoon tea delightful, nice bubbles and good tea/coffee. The bathrooms were spotless! Very nice venue.

Kooyong is a private members only club, however, there are many affiliated clubs which have reciprocal rights, you may already be a member of one of those clubs. I recommend you visit the kooyong website and make an enquiry direct to the club.
