Un'altra bella dimora da visitare. Arredato come i proprietari avrebbero vissuto in esso nel corso della giornata. Abbastanza dentro e fuori.

Il palazzo Kingscote è una bellissima casa a Newport, ricca di storia. Questa casa è guidata (le altre dimore della Newport Preservation Society sono autoguidate in modo da poterle visitare in qualsiasi momento), quindi è necessario presentarsi a Kingscote per uno dei 4 - 5 tour giornalieri. La nostra guida turistica, Marry, è stata meravigliosa. Il nostro gruppo di circa 14 persone è stato molto contento del suo tour. Era interattiva con noi, sapeva tutto della casa e della famiglia che viveva lì, ha risposto a tutte le nostre domande e così piacevole.

Can we categorize this as a smaller "Mansion?"

Upon finishing our three Gilded age mansions - Breakers, Elms, and Marble, my wife and I decided on our fourth day to do another. Kingscote, a much smaller Gothic home, does not accept payment, only tickets, so we went back to our car in the private parking lot and booked online. Unlike the audio tours of the others, we were basically on our own to explore with the help of a docent stationed on each floor and a self-guided pamphlet. As with all these homes, the history is most fascinating. Kingscote was gifted to the Society in 1973 by the last descendent - Gwendolen. During the tour, it became apparent that it was hard to follow the lineage, as the women decedents carried names of their predecessors; ie Ella Rives King - Maude Gwendolen King - Gwendolen Ella Rives Armstrong - Gwendolen Rives. "This was Gwendolen's room." Further complicating the tour was that the pamphlet upstairs didn't match the directional tour with the correct names. The docent agreed with us that the picture of "Gwendolen" was really Ella! Only the Society with the help of Abbot and Costello could figure this out. We had fun during the confusion and enjoyed the house.

Quaint Mansion

This is our third trip to Newport and our first time touring the smaller mansions. We could envision living in this one. Beautifully decorated and ornate stain glass windows.

Lovely home!

Another beautiful mansion to tour. Furnished as the owners would have lived in it back in the day. Pretty inside and out.

Lovely Newport home

Kingscote mansion is a beautiful Newport home, rich in history. This home is one that is guided (other Newport Preservation Society mansions are self guided so you can visit at any time) so you must show up at Kingscote for one of the 4-5 daily tours. Our tour guide, Marry, was wonderful. Our group of about 14 people were very pleased with her tour. She was interactive with us, knew everything about the home and the family who lived there, answered all of our questions, and so pleasant.

This mansion was most impressive because it has been restored to the time when families lived in it. I recommend going with good daylight as it is dark and there is so much to see.

Interesting Structure

One of the few mansions offering a guided tour. House was interesting especially the addition housing a beautiful large dining room. A more enthusiastic tour guide would have added to the experience.

ONE OF MY FAVORITES!

This is an update of a review that I wrote for Kingscote in June, 2012. Today we had a great tour of this home. I did not feel rushed as I have on other house tours. This is a home that was given to the Newport Preservation Society with all its furnishings by the last descendent. It is also a home that three woman ended up living in on a permanent basis, so that when they sold their other homes, they brought their possessions here. Consequently there are a lot of furniture and many interesting "knickknacks" in this house. Unlike some of the other mansions, this one could be a conformable home.

A year's membership for the Newport Historical Society is now $90.00 for a couple and $105.00 for a family (2 adults and all children 6-17). Another option that we purchased this year is NARM. For $150.00 a year, you can visit all the mansions as well as hundreds of places throughout the United States.

Visit. This. Mansion. We took the guided tour after visiting the more well known and lavish mansions. The larger mansions are certainly impressive and well worth your time. Do not leave this gem off your list.
Our guide was knowledgeable, patient, and well versed on the family history.
For those looking for insights into the early history of Newport and Bellevue Ave, Kingscote is definitely worth your time.

Quaint compared to the other mansions

Although this house is more quaint and full of their family’s memorabilia, this is beautiful home filled with what was very interesting times with very interesting people. Many conversation lives and wonderful stories!!

Una mansión original y muy bien explicada

Estuvimos con nuestros hijos y nos encantó. La visita se hace con una guía que te va explicando con detalle toda la casa, tenía un conocimiento muy exhaustivo de la misma y lo contó con mucho entusiasmo. Todo en inglés, eso si, pero se la entendía genial. La mansión es totalmente diferente a las otras y precisamente por eso nos gustó, es como visitar una casa más personal que una mansión. Dónde están todos los detalles y objetos de colección y decoración de la familia. Sin duda, una visita muy recomendable.
