Don’t miss - see before the WW II museum.

This is a great museum right next to the WW II museum, but even the building is history. Well laid out, and you can see everything in a couple hours if you like to read. Some really good facts and never knew that displays. For $10 and a couple or few hours one of the best things to see in New Orleans.

Lovely surprise

We had just left the WWII museum and wondered what the brown building was. What a surprise to find it was a museum on another war, this time the civil war. Being Australian I know very little about this war so found it fascinating and the displays were amazing. I know being predominantly a confederate museum you are on the wrong side of history but history needs to be remembered and shown in order not to repeat. The staff were really helpful and I left feeling this was a really important place to visit.

An authentic experience of a terrible war and the devastation of people’s lives

Friendly volunteers, also knowledgeable. Very impressive collection of artefacts with interesting stories attached. I left wanting to know more. No preaching about the rights and wrongs of the war- what a relief.

Great amount of history packed in a small package. Worth the visit

For a small building it was packed with a great amount of history. A lot of locals contributed. Nice displays and some great information.

Great little museum

What a great little museum, well worth a visit. Full of memorabilia & stories of soldiers that fought in the war. Entry was $10 so good value, allow approx 1.5 hours

What a wonderful little museum. No rights or wrongs, just history and memorabilia. Bought some wonderful earings made from old buttons. Truly enjoyed reading about the people.

It Belongs In This Museum

Great facility that displays a rich history through artifacts and historical records. It is well worth the entry fee (10 USD as of Jan. 2023). See it before someone decides to erase it!

The museum does not go into the reasons for the US Civil War and does not lionize the South nor villainize the North. Instead, the displays detail the soldiers who fought in the Confederate military during the conflict. Uniforms, weapons, diaries, etc. can be seen here that are not well-documented/preserved elsewhere. For true fans of history, please support this museum so that the memory remains forever: it belongs in a museum!

NOTE: parking can be a little tricky in the area, but there are pay parking spots available near the museum

If you have to choose, skip the WW2 museum and prioritize this.

Awe inspiring and majestic in scope. The architecture alone is captivating, the interior crafted with cypress Timbers not seen any where else.
By far, more personal effects on display than the WW2 museum. This museum is a fitting and grand must-see. A humbling tribute to a brother against brother war that should never have happened.
Sad, and cautionary history we should embrace. It had a huge impact on me.

visite indispensable pour comprendre une certaine réalité. en plu pour les Français rare de visiter un musée relatif à la guerre de sécession. bien évidemment consacré aux confédérés. approche classique et militaire. mais on apprend plein de choses. belle boutique avec plein de souvenirs à acheter. Comptez une heure de visite.

Friendly Staff and Some Interesting History

This is a small museum founded by aging survivors of the Confederate Army at the turn of 20th century. It is small but contains some interesting original items. The most impressive exhibits, at least to me, was several extremely well preserved officers uniforms that looked like they just left the tailor's shop. The museum is well located in the revitalizing warehouse district of New Orleans with many parking options. It is worth a side trip from the nearby World War II museum.
