Mi è stato chiesto di ritirare alcuni oggetti durante una rapida visita a Savannah da Ellis Square. Sono arrivato proprio alle 10:00 di sabato proprio mentre tutto stava aprendo. Anche se non ho avuto l'opportunità di visitare davvero tutti i negozi, è stato davvero carino e non vedo l'ora di tornare nelle prossime settimane e rimanere più a lungo. Il Savannah Candy Kitchen è stato fantastico e non dimenticare di prendere dei biscotti da Byrd's.

“Unattractive Urbanized City Square”

In una città con molte belle piazze, questa era la meno attraente. Molti senzatetto e altri personaggi imprecisi in giro. Situato proprio accanto al mercato cittadino, ma continua a camminare e trova luoghi più piacevoli.

Ellis Square Market - Make Time to Visit

I was asked to pick up a few items during a quick visit to Savannah from Ellis Square. I arrived right at 10:00 AM on Saturday just as everything was opening. Although I didn't get an opportunity to really take in all the shops, it was really quite nice, and I look forward to coming back in the next few weeks and staying longer. The Savannah Candy Kitchen was great, and don't forget to grab some cookies from Byrd's.

Unattractive Urbanized City Square

In a town with many beautiful city squares, this was the least attractive. Many homeless and other sketchy characters hanging around. Located right next to City Market but keep walking and find more pleasant spots.

Nice square.

The city has a lot of squares. This one has a lot less trees than the others. It’s a nice open space. It’s cool that they kept all the squares and didn’t name buildings in.

One Of The Three Lost Squares
set 2022
Ellis Square is located right next to the City Market and is the most urban of all the squares. Originally designed in 1733 and known then as Market Square due to the public market there going back from 1733 until 1954. It was known as 1 of the 3 lost squares since the city demolished the market in 1954 and built a parking garage. The city reclaimed the square in 2005, rebuilding the parking garage underground. The city is now in the process of restoring the other 2 lost squares.
There are some fountains and a statue of Johnny Mercer, a native son, who founded Capital records and was a renowned songwriter. The square is pretty wide open, there are a few trees and some minor landscaping, but having none of the character of most of the other squares.

Sunny wide-open square

A large pretty treeless square next to City Market. There is a splash pad fountain (not going while we were here) and the Johnny Mercer statue is here. There are a lot of restaurants nearby and this was probably the square we walked through the most. There are not many trees, so it's a very open sunny square.

Sterile square when compared to the rest of Savannah's squares

I walked by Ellis Square twice during my visit to Savannah in June 2021. It is near the pedestrian zone and City Market. It is kind of sterile when compared to all of Savannah's other squares. I would not make a special trip to see this square but if it is part of your walking route than it is OK.

A Little Different Than Most of Savannah's Squares

Unlike most of the other squares I have seen, this square is "barren," just about completely devoid of trees. There is a fountain for kids to run through, but it wasn't on when we were there. Not a particularly attractive square, compared to others.

At the City Market
nov 2019
We were headed to the City Market and passed through this square. It's notable for live music at many times and there is a fountain. `it's not the most beautiful square, but it may be the most lively.

You haven’t been to historic Savannah if you haven’t walked through the squares. Most of the squares are beautiful, and covered in love oaks. Ellis square is more open, but still very nice.

Located at the end of the market street, you can’t miss it.

My only critique, and it’s all over Savannah, is the number of homeless. Way too many.
I don’t mind them there, but the pan handling is getting out of control. Really makes you feel u easy after dark with them all laying in the shadows. Some are quite aggressive and vulgar. Keep your distance, but enjoy the squares nonetheless.

This park checks all of the boxes when you are wandering Old Savannah with kiddos! There's plenty of history, shops, music, food, and ... fountains to splash around in! After square after square, and streets with old trees covered in Spanish Moss, the kids were looking for something to appeal to them. The splash park hit the spot, especially to wet and rejuvenate for more walking and wandering on a hot day.
