My husband and I are on our honeymoon and knew as soon as we decided where to go that we wanted to go deep sea fishing. So glad I took the time to read reviews and decide on DSFK! Our crew was awesome! Even though the seas were super rough and we only caught 1 fish (granted it was a 100+lb yellow fin tuna) that we were unable to keep due to the size, the captain made sure to provide us with enough sashimi grade yellow fin from the day before to be able enjoy as poké and seared rare! Can’t recommend this company enough! We can’t wait to come back to Kauai and try our luck again!

We had a great time fishing with our captain Abraham and first mate Bronson. I caught a really nice Mahi-mahi and enjoyed the entire trip. My wife didn't do real well with the rocking and rolling, but the crew was very kind, understanding, and helpful. Highly recommend!

What a great time that we had!! Our party of 6 did a private 6-hr charter with Captain J’s and Abraham & Austin got us out and on the fish quick! We ended up catching 5 skipjack tuna, 3 mahi-mahi, and a wahoo and ended up coming in about 30 minutes early due to storms, but after an active morning of fishing, we were played out. Abraham was an excellent captain, and Austin did an excellent job on getting the lines back out after we caught, and kept busy as we reeled them in. Mahalo Abraham & Austin for such a great time!!

Abraham and Bronson were GREAT! While we couldn't find the big tuna, we found several mahi mahi that put up a great fight. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time on the boat and talking to both of them. They were persistent in finding the fish for us and were determined that we didn't go home empty handed. We will definitely look at booking another trip with Deep Sea Fishing Kauai when we return.

Abraham and Bronson were very hospitable, honest and worked hard to make our experience safe and exciting. We had to postpone our trip for a few days due to bad weather and we really appreciated their honest advise. We were 3 couples and we each caught 3 or more fish. Abraham had experience and found great fishing areas and Bronson worked hard to keep up to all the fish we were catching, coaching us patiently. We often had 3-4 fish on the lines at once. We caught 25 fish total. Mostly yellowfin tuna plus a few skipjack tuna. We would definitely go fishing with Captain J's again!

Kyle and Austin were awesome. Funny guys, and they knew where to take us. We ended up catching 6 good size skipjack tuna, 3 big skipjack, and 1 shark billed spearfish! It was an awesome catch. We had three fish on the lines at once. It was great! Highly recommend using them for your fishing charters.

Abraham and Austin wasted no time putting us on fish! They were both very knowledgeable about the boat and equipment and made the 4 hours fly by. We caught several Skip Jack tuna and a Mahi Mahi. The next we come back this way we will absolutely be fishing with Captain J’s again!

Awesome charter with great people! Abraham and Bronson were very hospitable, kind, and knowledgeable. And they made sure we had the best chance of catching fish. We ended up catching one almost immediately and then at the very end all 5 of our reels hit. All in a 4 hour charter we caught 1 wahoo, and 3 yellowfin tuna. Was an exciting and fun time for sure. Highlight of our trip!

You start fishing the moment you leave the harbor. We smashed the tuna and had a helluva fight with big marlin. Great skipper and crew. Worked hard and put us on the fish.

While in Kauai two weeks ago I decided since I have fishing all over the world I would try Captain J in Port Allen on his Bertram 31" a try. Hoped on to a shared charter since I was a single.
Adequate parking on the second pier area. friendly mate and Captain.
There were 5 of us in total . Left dock at 6:30 and headed out under a unbelievable awakening sunrise. Set our lines and jigs once the birds were spotted about 1/2 hr from dock. I could not believe the sound of the first hit from the deep depths. One loud snap of the line and then the fight was on. Woman with her dad worked hard reeling in a 50lb yellow tail tuna. We kept following the birds but it was then dead for about 2 hrs and all of a sudden while I was jigging the line while trawling my reel went off. What a rush. M fish was not comparison to the 50 pounder but my Skip jack tuna was a real thrill to reel in. Only about 12-14 lbs but still a lot of fun.
Highly recommend give this Captain a chance when you are in the Port Allen southern area of Kauai.
The Captain filled the yellow tail and each of us were give the mist beautiful fillets to bring home to prepare, Most restaurants will not let you bring your fish to them dure t health dept regs.
I grilled our fillets at the VRBO that I was renting on their brand new Weber gas grill.
remember a day out out see fishing is beautiful and exciting but remember everyday is not a catching day.

What kind of fish are typically caught? Are they sport or good for eating?

We also caught Skipjack, Yellowfin and Big Eye Tuna (these are all types of tuna that restaurants serve as Ahi). There were Mahi Mahi around but not for us that day. The crew will usually fillet at least one fish for you to take. They grill up very nicely!
If you happened to bring in only very large fish it might be different because it would have to be sent to the market intact.
