We visited on a late Sunday morning, parked on the street for free just below the bridge and walked up the Museum of Glass access ramp. This bridge is a must see while visiting downtown Tacoma. It crosses over the highway.
Definitely take time to enjoy each glass piece, all very different in shapes and colors. Not often you get this for free. We walked over the bridge to the other side to get some coffee, followed by lunch.

If you want a free alternative or addition to Chiluly Garden and Glass, be sure to stop by this bridge in Tacoma. It is worth a visit if you're in the area. We parked in the Museum of Glass parking lot and got free parking because the parking kiosks weren't working. We walked across the bridge and browsed the museum gift shop. It was a nice outing.

This bridge is a landmark in Tacoma, and it crosses over a highway. There were magnificent works of glass art throughout this bridge. This bridge also led to the waterfront, to the museum, and to Tacoma’s Downtown. I am sure that it took a lot of work to construct this bridge. I felt safe in this area, and I parked for free on a street a few blocks away.

When getting ready for our recent 3 day trip to Seattle, we asked our friends & family what we should not miss while there. Everyone said, "Don't miss the Bridge of Glass in Tacoma!" And they were right. So amazing, and best of all, other than paying for street parking, it was free! We happened to be there during a break in the rain, which was nice.
My favorite part was the Seaform section, and can only imagine what it would be like with actual sun shining through it! The other two parts were great as well, although the Venetian wall section reminded me a little too much of a mausoleum wall setup...
Of note, we started on the Museum of Glass end, crossed the bridge, and then zipped over to the old Union Station, which has some amazing Chihuly glass structures inside. However, it is now a Federal Courthouse so be prepared to show ID before you can enter.

The art work from the glass shop displayed on the bridge is amazing. We were able to entertain the kids with all the different shapes and designs while walking and see the blue sky come through was just a spectacular site.

Ok I'm a HUGE fan of Dale Chihuly's work! Even though it was a very cool and drizzly day, off we went from Seattle to Tacoma to visit A Bridge of Glass. Tacoma is Chihuly's home town, and a Bridge of Glass did not disappoint. It is his art installation across the pedestrian bridge that spans I-705, and connects the Thea Foss Waterway and the Museum of Glass. There are 3 different areas that make up A Bridge of Glass created by Chihuly to change our perception of the space and environment. These include 1) the Seaform Pavillion - a complete glass ceiling of his spectacular and colorful works of art, 2) the Crystal Towers (the center of the Bridge) that are huge and I can only image what they would look like on a sunny day, and 3) the Venetian Wall with a stunning amount individual pieces. Breathtaking works of art free for all to enjoy, and ends with a stunning view of the harbor. If you love stunningly beautiful works of art, don't miss this one.

We parked in a $5 lot at the base of the bridge (at the Museum of Glass.). The bridge will blow your mind! Incredible how they can add that color to glass & bend it that way, & make it so large.

A friend took us here. What a wonderful surprise and what a great gift to the people of Tacoma. We would be poorer if we'd have missed it. The ceilings are the most incredible.

Very interesting bridge with Chihuly glass works. When we were there it had just started raining. We walked to the bridge in a drizzle. When we got under the glass art ceiling area the rain really started coming down. Fortunately it kept us dry. We didn’t have bright sun which I think would have helped all the glass works. Worth a stop if you are in Tacoma.

Is the public parking at the courthouse or Washington state history museum or street parking free on weekends?
Scritta in data 24 luglio 2024
You can see the art displayed on the open bridge free of charge; but I'd recommend teaming with the glass museum or museum of art. There are great discounts available if you check for a multi pass.

The bridge itself isn't made of glass. It is a typical pedestrian bridge but one that has glass art installed on it.

Where is there parking nearby?
Scritta in data 18 agosto 2018
Hi Maggie,
yes there is ample parking space nearby. But we simply parked our RV at the curb on Dock street. But there are parking lots along Dock Street as well.

What hours is this available for viewing?
Scritta in data 26 febbraio 2018
The bridge is always open. It’s an open walkway and bridge between the Washington State Historical Museum and the Glass Museum.

Does the sunlight hit the bridge early in the morning? For a Sunrise destination walk?
Scritta in data 12 gennaio 2017
Kind of hard to say. It was was overcast and drizzling when we visited in September but I suspect in the summer months when the sun rises very early that it certainly could be.

This is not a museum - it is literally a public bridge over train tracks (I uploaded a picture). It is moments from the Museum of Glass and less than a five minute walk from the Tacoma Art Museum, but you could walk here at any hour day or night, even when the museums close at 5 pm.
Scritta in data 12 settembre 2016
We have limited time and wonder if we can go on the Bridge of Glass in early morning before the Museum opens.
Scritta in data 1 settembre 2016
Yes. The bridge is open all day and totally free.

Where is the closest parking to the Bridge of Glass?
Scritta in data 18 luglio 2016
You can either park in the Tacoma Museum of Glass parking, which is one side of the bridge or drive around and do public parking next to the courthouse on the other end of the bridge. The bridge itself is free.
