Beacon Rock State Park doth presenteth a majestic spectacle reminiscent of nature's grandeur. The towering Beacon Rock, rising from the depths of the Columbia River, beareth witness to the strength and beauty of God's creation. The verdant forests, teeming with wildlife, doth enchant the senses and transporteth one back to a time when the land was untamed. The trails windeth through the wilderness, leadingeth explorers to breathtaking vistas and hidden treasures. As one wandereth amidst the ancient trees and beholds the mighty river flowing below, a sense of awe and reverence doth permeate the soul. Beacon Rock State Park is a testament to the enduring splendor of the natural world, a sanctuary where one can findeth solace and reconnecteth with the essence of existence.

This is a great park with little or no information available on location. Get yourself a map from the website before you go! Even with the map, it can be confusing. There are a lot of great hikes, but we wanted to do the Beacon Rock - find the trailhead right along highway 14. Two parking areas are available (use the automated pay station), with the trailhead in between. Be aware that the trail goes up and up seemingly forever, with switchbacks galore! What a challenge it must have been to build this trail on the sheer rock faces.
The views are stunning. If you're going on a weekend, get there early since the narrow trail can get crowded.

At Beacon Rock State Park you will find a hike up the rock aided by bridge and stairs etched in the rock. In person, the path is a little less exhilarating than the pictures may suggest. It is more or less a bunch of switchbacks with a similar view most of the way up. The view from the top isn't quite as good as some of the views on the way up. The hike is relatively short and can be done in under an hour. The Columbia Gorge presents an abundance of excellent nature experiences. So when I compare this hike to the countless other experiences, it simply rates as average. If this were anywhere else, it would be above average. As it stands though, this is a crowded spot to get views you can find elsewhere in the Gorge with less people. I'd find one of those less crowded spots.

The RV camping area looks like it does not drain water well. The Columbia River is not visible from the camp sites.

The brilliant minds at the state of Washington Dept of Parks thoughtfully placed the RV campground between State Hwy 114 and a very busy railroad. Because of this foresight campers are treated to the noise of fast, rumbling trains and big rig trucks throughout the night. I can see the train approximately 100 meters away from my camper and the RV vibrates with each passing. If lucky, there is a stereo effect with both big rigs and the train. If you are a train enthusiast, who disdains uninterrupted sleep, Beacon Rock State Park is made for you.

Bathrooms were acceptable, but I did not see a shower token dispenser. Not sure where to get tokens

The Ranger station is located a bit down Hwy 114. I went there when they were closing at 4:20 PM to ask for a trail map. They had none. That was the only time I saw park personnel except for one grounds keeper mowing grass.

I doubt I will RV camp here again.

I camped here in early fall for three nights. Except for the first day, it rained very hard. There is a lot to do here in nice weather, and even some interesting things to do during a deluge. Hiking up Beacon Rock is a must. It is a relatively short hike (40 minutes at an easy pace for me), and the views of the Columbia River Gorge are breath-taking. I also hiked up the trails to the waterfalls, which are also well worth doing. The hiking trails are well maintained and even during lousy fall weekdays, there are enough people hiking the trail that I felt safe hiking alone. The campsites in the lower, old loop (where I was) are really only suited to tent camping, although there are about 3-5 sites you could pull in an small RV or camper van. I understand that there is another camping area much further back into the hills that might be more suited to larger RVs, but I don't really have any first-hand knowledge of this. You'd need to check on the park website.

One nice thing was the hot showers. If the campground were full, I can see that there might be some waiting time. However, if you don't mind a short drive, there are also showers in the day use and boat launch areas that have a far superior ratio of showers to people. There are also two camping places that have fairly little privacy near the boat launch should you be so inclined. They are nice sites, but not very private, especially during the day with the boat launch traffic.

The day use area has some nice hiking trails and lots of picnic tables. You can get food at the gas station in North Bonneville, or drive a little farther to Stevenson where you can get most anything you need in terms of food, hardware, etc.

My 12 yr. old daughter and I hiked Beacon Rock on August 17, 2021. You can pay the day fee of $10 at an auto pay kiosk at the trail head. There are also bathrooms to use and I recommend using them prior to hiking up Beacon Rock. I also recommend wearing hiking boots/shoes and bringing water.

The trail is well marked and it begins through the forest then starts going up switch back trails until you get to the top. The views are breathtaking from all angles. You get to see the Columbia River Gorge and the Washington State forest as well. The hike up is generally about 40 minutes up or so, minus rest breaks.

I highly recommend doing this hike if you are in the Columbia River Gorge area.

We made it to the top of the mile long, 850' climb in less then 30 minutes. 95% of the trail is paved, and there are plenty of places to stop and rest, though few benches. The best views are not at the top, but near the top on the switchbacks. The walk way has a metal door near the bottom that closes it off after dusk. The challenge is knowing what time they consider dusk. A friend dropped us off, so there was no car in the lot to give warning that there might be folk still on the trail. We got back down at official sunset, but we were a bit concerned. Ample parking. You do have to feed a meter.

Beacon Rock is an easy hike despite being almost a 1000 foot climb in elevation on a one mile hike . There are constant switch backs which decreases the feel of the ascents. It provides a great view of the Columbia River from the Washington side all of the way to the Oregon side which is still recovering from the fire a couple of years ago. Parking is a problem so you have to go early even on a Sunday and you have to pay.

Beacon Rock is a local destination for Rock Climbers and hikers. The park straddles State Highway 14 which parallels the Columbia River. Most visitors it seems stop off in the parking lot to climb the stairs to the top of Beacon Rock and are rewarded with excellent views of the Colombia River Gorge. It is a hot spot for rock climbers as well. During the weekends the Park is a bit overused and the parking lot is crowded. The trail network is on the north side of Highway 14. Hamilton Mountain is the most used trail in the park. A lesser used area of the park is the south side of Beacon Rock where thee is a boat launch a and river access for non motorized watercraft.
