Although this was not a large quarry, the views on a beautiful sunny day were amazing. The historical significance was written in both English and French as you approached the quarry. The only drawback was the availability of parking.

Loved the fossils and reading about the history of this little quarry - The Fisk Farm is close by and was visited by Teddy Roosevelt.

This is a very interesting area. The quarry is part of the Chazy Reef. You can view the fossils on the ground and in the rock. Be prepared, this is a do it yourself tour and there are no signs pointing out the fossils. It's cool just to roam and see what you can find. Lovely area to spend some time in and see fossils from millions of years ago.

We went here because my Lonely Planet book said this was going to be the highlight of a road trip we were taking through Vermont. Such a disappointment. The area is not maintained.
We almost missed the short trail to an information board because the trail looked over-run with shrubs and it was close to sunset. We ended up seeing a couple of fossils of cephalopods that weren't worth the (very scenic, but long) drive.
On a weekend where everything was busy and packed in the area (Labor Day weekend), this place was empty, which says a lot about what locals and other tourists think of this place.
This attraction is unmanned, and as such, there is no entry fee.

This is an old quarry where they found very old fossils unneeded in the rocks. The fossils are on the ground in the rocks and have been surrounded by pebbles so that you can find them.

A woman in Burlington VT told us about this when we told her we were staying in North Hero. So cool! You can put it in your GPS as Fisk Quarry and it comes right up. The fossils are outlined with circles of rocks so you can see them and if you follow the little paths you can find them all around the little preserve. There are some informational posters there as well. It's free and a fun way to spend an hour or so!

Decided to stop here when looking for something to do before my brothers wedding. Such an amazing place with spectacular history! I scuba dive, and being able to step foot in one of the worlds oldest Reef system was phenomenal ! My nieces loved finding the fossils ! Make a game out of counting them!

A beautiful setting to view fossils from an ancient sea representing the oldest fossil reef in the world. The docents are well informed and the signage is clear. The Preserve also has a walk through time exhibit that explains the evolution of life in placards along a 1 mile hike through butterfly filled fields and ceder woods. It is always wonderful to learn something while enjoying nature.

All I can say is who knew? This is part of the oldest known reefs in the world. It's a National Landmark, a treasure trove for geology geeks with fossils galore embedded in the rocks along the preserve. Even though I'm not really much into geology, I go to the preserve at least once a summer. It is a quiet tranquil place, totally unspoiled by time. It feels ancient. Just make sure you wear good shoes and depending on the time of day you go, wear your insect repellent.

So many US attractions are accompanied by a fee and clear directions as what and how to see something. Here, you are on your own. Be a good detective and many fossils will be found in the stone remains. (Ironically after the quarrying was done, it was discovered that-whoops-maybe we should preserve this geological site!). Other visitors had placed small rocks encircling the fossils. We did find some wee ones embedded in the large rocks near the quarry "pond". Breathe, move slow and discover!
