I’ve come here many times and will bring a coffee or meal with me since I usually stay a while to watch the planes.
The take off and landing are subject to the weather conditions and if you know the lingo you can listen to the overhead speaker instructing the planes from air traffic control.
They have a special section dedicated to our military where kids or the young at heart can shoot off a small water cannon signifying our troops coming home.
On days that you see groups of photographers with expensive and large looking cameras I would recommend you ask them what they’re waiting for. I’ve spoken to a few of these folks, they’ve always been extremely knowledgeable and willing to share insight on when the next big plane is coming. It’s almost become a cult following. On my last visit one of them showed me the app they use and I stuck around a little longer to watch a British Airway double decker 747 take off.
There are plenty of benches and usually lots of parking. It doesn’t cost anything to come here. My only critic is I wish they would be able to eradicate the fire ants that always bite my feet when I visit. They keep the grass well watered and maintained. Myself and others will kick off our shoes and get as close as we can to the planes.

Planes Spotter's paradise! Though not so close to the actions, the frequency of flights and variety of aircrafts were interesting. Founder's Plaza was very family friendly. Plenty of parking. We've been plane spotting at several airports around the world, and this is one of the best.

Great place for locals or out-of-towners! Great for any age. Photographers love it. Sit on a bench or under a tree. The "Welcome Home a Hero" fountain is awesome.

What a fun spot to just sit and watch the planes take off and land. The view is amazing and the planes take off and land maybe 200 yards at most in front of you. There is never a lack of planes to watch either, if you’re into aviation this is for you. My kids and I thoroughly enjoyed it and if we’re ever back in the area we will visit again.

Of the few public viewing spots I've been to, the setup and layout was one of the BEST I've been to. Plenty of FLAT paved parking, binoculars, information out the airport and it's history. Located right in front of UPS cargo ramp. So you get to see their operations. Good viewing of landing and takeoff traffic. Although there is some heat haze if you're the serious person using the long range lens. Only 1 drawback I don't like is they don't even have port-a-potties. Luckly the nearest gas stations and restaurants aren't TOO far away.

Our kids have never flown so we came here to show them what planes look like as they are taking off and landing. If you come, make sure you come in the morning before it gets too hot. Also, there are several places to sit and eat a picnic lunch if you want to do that instead. It looked like most people spent about 30 minutes looking at planes and then left. A good experience but don't expect to spend much time here since it is just the same thing after another.

This is a great place to relax for aviation enthusiasts while watching the planes come and go, and listening to live ATC.
However, the view of the air traffic is dependent on the winds and which runways are being used as you only get a view of the west runways. Also, depending on the winds, you have a great view of either take offs or landings.
Nevertheless, if you're an aviation enthusiast, it's a cool place to just sit back and enjoy the "flight".

This place is great to take the family to check out! Plenty of grass for the kids to run around. Enjoy hearing the pilots and ATC talk over the radio on the outdoor speaker. I highly recommend. And it’s free!

Nice place for the family. Come out and watch planes take off and land at DFW airport. You’re able to listen to the the conversations between the pilots and control tower. Bring binoculars for a closer look.

Why on earth is there no restroom here? The closest restroom is three miles away in the nearest restaurant. Consider the kids and elderly!!!

7pm is the stated closing time, but the DFW Police will usually not run you off until right before sunset in the long days of summer.
Hi! I have never been here before and was wondering if there is spots where you can park your truck and sit in the back and watch the airplanes go by? Or how does this work? Thank you!

Yes, I have seen several trucks back into the parking spaces, so they sit in the back and are facing the action. Photographers seem to especially like this arrangement.

Last time I went to founders Plaza the planes were using a runway far from the viewing area does anyone know how to tell based on the air direction if the planes are using the runway closest to the viewing area?

In general, if the winds are out of the south (blowing from the south to the north), planes will be landing near the viewing area on 18R. If it is a light travel day, take offs and landings will be slow. The best times for viewing are in the morning and afternoons. That's when air traffic is heaviest.
