Very nice, historical area. I know there are a lot of conspiracies out there and being here peaks my curiosity. From this vantage point you would have a clear and slightly elevated view. It just seems there would be to many people around. We will probably never know but this is a great place to visit

The Dealy Plaza area is a fantastic area for a history lesson and reflection, however, the Grassy Knoll is just a grassy hill. Spend the time and money to visit the Sixth Floor Museum to get a better perspective of the events on November 22, 1963.

If you lived during this time period, you will never forget where you were & what you were doing on the day President Kennedy was assassinated! It will give you chills to stand where this horrific event occurred that changed history. There is an X on the street marking the location of the kill shot.
I waited for a lull in the traffic and stood on that spot and said a prayer for President Kennedy.

It was very somber to be in the place where JFK was assassinated so many years ago. You can really feel the weight of history.

My family enjoyed the tour. We’ve lived in DFW 3 years now and this was our first time on this tour. We loved doing this at our pace and learning where this sad event occurred.

Obviously historical and in context of that worth visiting. Recommend the museum on JFK just a few steps away to get another perspective down onto the street.

Being downtown in Dallas was not quite what I expected. The place was nice but there was quite a number of street bums. I wouldn't recommend going here alone at lonely hours, though there was police presence. It's probably more fun during work hours, or if you are visiting in a group.

Let's start from the beginning

The parking is a bit horrible. There are about three metered spots across the street from the plaza, but they are taken fast, and it costs $1.50 per hour. It can get expensive if you want to take your time around the area, plus you have to travel back to the meter to add more time if needed.

Just down the street from those meters and at the back of the 6th Floor Museum are two parking lots. The first one directly behind the museum is owned by the museum itself. As of the writing of this post, it was $12 for the day, something like 5AM to 11PM. The parking lot behind that was $10 per day, same hours, and some of the spots at the back were shaded, great during the Texas summer. It may be the same owner, but I am not sure. The Museum required tickets be purchased online, probably due to COVID-19, but had a ticket booth at the entrance that wasn't used, probably also for COVID-19. You must purchase a ticket to the WHOLE museum to get to the gift shop. I first thought that the line was exceptionally long, but later realized that it was people waiting for their tour time to arrive so they could go in. I did not purchase tickets. For myself, my wife, and my 8 year old son, it was going to be $64, which included taxes and online fees.

A few hundred yards away from the back parking lot was the entire scene where JFK was shot. It has some potentially nice water features, though someone tossed a bunch of clothes into them, and great monuments to more than JFK, all in a few short yards. One of the monuments was erected in the memory of Mr. Dealey, an important civic leader, and the first publisher of the Dallas Morning News. As you approach, you may be accosted by two individuals on different corners selling "souvenir books" that are little more than pamphlets that tell you all about the conspiracy theory surrounding the shooting of JFK. The color book from the first individual is $10, the black and white one from the second individual is $5, but if you purchase both from the second individual for $20, you get the black and white one free.

You may also be approached by someone at a small booth that is selling tickets to the bus tours. One bus tour takes you to several JFK sites like Oswald's hotel during the shooting, the police department where Oswald was shot, etc. I didn't go on that one, and forget what the prices were, but they were cheaper than the Dallas City bus tour. The Dallas City bus tour takes you around the downtown area to several different spots. Most of them are just old buildings, but the driver was really good at describing the history around them. Not many of them are the same category of historic like the JFK site, but there is history with each one. The price for the Dallas bus tour was $40 for me and my wife, and my son was free. He told us it was a deal, but I'm pretty sure that this is the actual price and he jacked it up, just to bring it down to the "deal" price. Either way, it was an air conditioned bus that actually made me cold, and I got to sit down for an hour and a half while sightseeing several historic buildings. It's not something I would do again, but it was probably worth the $40 to me. You may feel different, but I always want to try something once, even if it's a waste of time because you never know when something will surprise you. It just depends on what you like.

There are metal stands with maps of the historic sites all over Dealey Plaza in case you get lost, and the pedestrian traffic was light. Perhaps it was because it was a Sunday, and three blocks away was a major cheering competition at the civic center, and maybe it's just always that good. Either way, it wasn't crowded, so I had easy access to the grassy Knoll, the two monuments that sit on each side of Main street, the JFK Memorial Plaza that sits one block east, and Founder's Plaza which is one block north of the JFK Memorial Plaza. Making another left turn gets you back to Dealey Plaza, one block west.

All in all, it was a pretty enjoyable afternoon. Between walking around the plaza and the bus tour, we spent about four hours in the area, and had some great family time. The only downfall was the price of the 6th Floor Museum. One day I may break down and fork over the large sum, but that day wasn't today.

It was interesting to see a part of history. Wish I would have done a walking tour but it was a quick trip and I didn’t have time to plan well.
