Many people, residents and vacationers, like to walk the Portsea Pier. It's on the Mornington Peninsula, a high point of this upper-crust holiday destinaion. The Pier is on two levels, it's is a good spot for fishing, especially snapper and squid.

Staying down at Portsea for the week and took the young teenagers down the pier numerous times for a fish. Plenty of squid being caught and we caught a few Banjo Sharks. Beautiful spot with cafe Le Cuchin right there for a coffee.

It was a great stroll out along the pier and looking back you saw excellent views of the Portsea pub and surrounding properties. Lots of people fishing off the pier and the boat was teaching divers.

Portsea pier is found along the coastal line of the Mornington Peninsula. There are two levels for the tourists to use and many a person has fished there [squid and snapper are popular catches] and scuba dived. Lots of people sit and watch the waves or look over the ocean or the coastline while having a coffee or a snack. Many a school group is seen learning about the history of the area and marine biology [this was happening when I visited pre-covid].
The water here on most days is quite clear making it easy to see what is happening below the surface. Though jumping or diving off the pier is NOT allowed for safety reasons.
If you have a dog with you, it has to stay leashed. Note that Portsea front beach has sandbagging happening at the moment due to erosion [access to one side of the beach is closed], so be sure to watch your step and follow the signs. If you continue around the bend you will find the Portsea Beach Huts.
Parking is interesting and limited to 2 hours and they will fine you - so be careful and watch your time there.
Not far from the pier are a few cafes and eateries - such as La Capucin [for a great coffee and snack - see review] and Radio Luna [for a super meal - see review].
A great place to take photos, have a relaxing walk, go for a swim and other wellbeing activities. Hop on down as the restrictions are slowly being lifted. [Review written May]

A great pier to visit. Try and get there on sunrise or sunset on a clear night. It can look amazing.

I came here for a sunset photo and it didn't disappoint. The pier is incredibly popular and was really busy with people strolling along it at sunset. It is also extremely popular with fishing people. It is also a well known place where people go scuba diving from due to the prevalence of the weedy sea dragons and other really interesting sea life. The pier is extremely long so if you are a photographer, make sure you bring that wide angle lens.

It is nice to walk the pier after a meal at the nearby pub .
Generally there are fishermen trying their luck and I guess you could catch a wide range of fish from there, always good to ask them if their having any luck.
At that point near the shore I can see they have built a big sandbag and rock wall to stop erosion.
Good place to look out into the bay and have a bit of quiet time .

Nice spot for a shore dive, with little critters from nudibranchs to weedy seadragons! Close to the end of the pier is a "wall" with a few hundred pufferfish and is pretty amazing!
Be careful when diving away from the pier structure as there would be fishermen/sometimes boats!

What a lovely view over the bay. You can watch the coasters and container ships coming in and out here and take a walk before or after lunch. A great spot and lovey on a sunny day

Quick visit today. Very picturesque, quaint little pier. Husband loved chatting to the fishermen hanging round the pier.
