Beautiful scenery watch out for snakes on the track. This is a beautiful beach but not safe for swimming and you are far from any help.

Walked Cape Shank to BB and back. Warm day nice sea breeze. Husband and wife fit(reg gym attendees) 60s years young.
Track narrow with exposed tree roots in parts. Wear good shoes/sandals. Stairs bit steep and but ‘washed out’ in parts - no hand rails. Take ur time.
Some of the track is exposed - always take a hat and decent amount of h2o.
Beach was in spoilt, open, raw, unspoilt … worth the hike. lots of friendly people say hello etc great day out!

Bushrangers Bay has a beautiful beach accessed during low tide. The long walk from the roadside carpark is rugged in places but it rewards with beautiful views. Trek through the wilderness is exciting and we were able to see groups of Kangaroos feeding at some spots. The rock outcrops at the bay have the distinct signs of ancient volcanic lava flow and eroded faces are worthy of seeing. It was a beautiful place and we were well rewarded.

Cons/tips - Disappointed that the toilets were locked on the walk there and back. Also come prepared to get your shoes off to walk through the icy water stream at the base of the steps. A friend tried crossing the slippery black rocks and had a nasty fall. The stairs were hard going on my unfit muscles so do take a pole to support you if you have any difficulty with leg strength.
Pros - lovely views, not crowded, wallabies, easy drive, parking and picnic area :)

My wife and I parked our car at the Cape Schanck car park and walked to this place. There are more parking bays here than on the Boneo Road car park. Also, it is a more scenic walk along the coast.
The hiking trail is almost 6 km for a return trip and takes a reasonable level of fitness to complete. This is why there are not many reviews for this place.
It is a beautiful place to visit. The autumn weather was perfect for this walk.

went on a beautiful Sunday. crowded paths, beaches and rock pools but worth the effort. I would suggest they put side railings near the stairs. I found them quite dangerous otherwise a lovely place but you need to be alert and aware of your surroundings.

Beautiful 3km walk from Cape Schanck, through the Reserve, to here. There is a beautiful rock which is climbable.

The 5.2km walk to Bushranger's Bay is described as moderately easy. I would disagree with this in Summer. I am reasonably fit. I run 8km three times a week and go to the gym three times a week and have walked a number of full day canyon walks in the USA and Europe. This track in December on a hot day was too much. Its not so much the terrain, but more from the lack of shade, extreme heat and unbearable flies. We actually stopped about three quarters of the way in and turned back. There are parts where it is sandy track that is hard going in the heat, and the flies were absolutely unbearable in the middle of summer. I know there are flies in hot dry climates in Australia but these were really extreme here, to the point of distraction. We had snakes on the track (which can happen anywhere in Australia in summer to be fair) and there is not a lot of shade along the way. A lot of it goes into coastal scrub paths away from the water, which were very hard work in the hot conditions. The scenery along the coastal paths were extremely beautiful in their rugged way but I would only attempt this in cooler weather when the heat can have less of an impact. I enjoyed the walk out to the lighthouse and the boardwalk to pulpit rock much more than this walk.

Firstly, don't attempt the walk unless you have a modicum of fitness. Though the path is well laid out there are a number of stairs. It's great in the colder months or hotter months. We went on a particularly stinking hot day and my wife got heatstroke - though that's not the fault of the Bay nor track. A beautiful beach and rock-pool area with grand sweeping and commanding views await all who take this track to see the bay. Make sure you take the track from the carpark rather than Boneo road though - the views are worth it. And remember - there are no bin nor bathroom facilities once you leave the carpark, so take everything back with you.

Is it better to walk from the lighthouse or Bondi Rd?
