What is a beautiful garden in May is very disappointing in March we expected a show of daffodils, crocuses and snowdrops and there were none. Plus the entrance fee has gone up £2.50 from £12 to £14.50

Hi James,
Thanks for taking the time for reviewing. I see that your review is dated on the 3rd March, for any garden that is very early in the year for lots of flowers, and we had a particularly cold February that pushed everything back. Now (10 days later) the garden is ablaze with magnolia, daffodils, snowdrops, azelea etc.
You are correct that the admission price is £14.50 for and adult but I do need to respectfully respond that this has been in place since 2023 so we haven't increased our prices this year.

Such a enjoyable day, the grounds and gardens were delightful and very interesting. The castle is a real gem. You get a glimpse of what life was like for the Phillips descendants, with lots of exhibits for you to see. Great value and a good day out.

Large free carpark then a short walk to the castle, check opening times. The staff were friendly and helpful with or without a guided tour the castle is worth a visit. The gardens too and the café are very good.

Wales has so many castles and this was very close to where we were staying. We weren’t expecting much other than the castle and were pleasantly surprised. The owl gardens, otters and insects were interesting and fun to look around. The kids also loved running round on the expansive lawns and loved the play park. Our 8 year old also loved the jungle trail and couldn’t wait to show me the walled gardens. We also ate in the on site cafe and loved the food and the great choice on offer.
We prefer to visit ruined castles or traditionally restored castles and have previously enjoyed a visit to Carew Castle. We were a bit underwhelmed by this one as it had been turned into a Manor House, but the parts that we could see had been well restored and it was still interesting to look around.
We had such a surprisingly great day out here!

We stayed in the West Gatehouse and had access to the wonderful gardens all week.
They are so well looked after and extensive.
The walled garden is a delight but we also loved the woodland areas.
The staff/volunteers in the house were so friendly.
I only wish we could’ve stayed a bit longer.

We paid an additional £5 to join a guided tour and it was worth it, our guide, Stephen, was very interesting and gave a lot of information but it was all helpful and made our visit more enjoyable as he was able to point out key things to look out for around the house (especially about the family who owned the castle and people in the portraits) and we got to visit upstairs in the chapel which is closed to non-tour members.
We enjoyed walking around the gardens, if the weather had been a bit better we may have walked further, but it was fine for us. The gardens were peaceful and beautiful with colourful flowers.
There is a restaurant but we went to the pop up hut for a tea, coffee and brownie which was nice.
When you buy your ticket, it’s valid for 7 days so you can always pop back again if you want to revisit.

Heaven on Earth.
Been here 5 times now. I adore this beautiful place.
Dog Friendly Gardens. Dogs not allowed in the Castle itself.
There is so much to see here. The Gardens are huge. The Walled Garden is stunning. We had a Picnic at The Dew Pond, so lovely.
Food available in the Walled Garden or the Courtyard area by the Gift Shop.
A couple of Public Toilets set inside the Gardens in very strategic places ,clearly well thoughtfully planned. They are very well maintained too, clean and well stocked. Bins placed outside.
Icehouse, Jungle, Bamboo Forest, Hydrangeas, Redwood Trees , Pet Cemetery, incredible Castle, Dew Pond, all here to be enjoyed.
Your entrance Ticket covers you for a full week too. We got ours on Monday and used it up to and including the following Monday for admission at no extra cost at all, just show the Staff at the Ticket Office when you next arrive, in you go.

Don't go!...Don't go! Don't go! We paid and went in full of expectation to see the owls, and zoo. BUT there are no owls anymore, or zoo! This place was advertised in a local magazine for 2024 with these things there. NO SIGN to say these things have been removed when you pay to enter. When we mentioned the fact they were no longer available to a member of staff she just shrugged and walked away! Wonderful customer service, perhaps her finishing school was bombed?

Thank you for your feedback. The Owl Garden departed in March 2024. Sadly, most of print advertising was arranged months prior to them leaving. The signage saying that they were leaving had been up for many months but was removed in late July to make way for new signage stating what was available, rather than what was not. We apologise that you were unaware of the change prior to your visit. I will ensure that all staff are aware of the importance of good customer service and apologise if the response was not to the standard you would like.

Such lovely gardens and so much to see! We loved the walled garden especially, beautifully planted and maintained. Would recommend to anyone who loves a garden.

Stayed at West Lodge for 7 nights and absolutely loved the tranquility and seclusion. Accommodation was immaculately clean, hosts supply everything needed and more for self catering, and all was of a high standard.
A special shout out for the generosity of the team and Maria's café during a power cut. Thank you for going the extra mile and offering exemprely customer service.
Especially recommend the castle guided tour.
Keeping an eye on the website and hope Christmas 2024 event dates will soon be added.

An elderly member of our party is in a wheelchair. Are the grounds/gardens suitable or accessible for her?

The gardens are about 75% accessible. We do have push wheelchairs available on loan should they be needed. The castle (by guided tour only)is also 80% accessible

The castle is 90% accessible (there are photo books for the chapel & bedrooms) The gardens are approx. 75% accessible - we have 3 push-type wheelchairs on site for visitors - there is no charge for borrowing them. If you need any further information please do get in touch
