The museum is a gem and Jason is an all-star. HIGHLY recommend. My ancestry is from Tain, and I learned SO MUCH on this visit. Even for the non-related, the history contained in the property is priceless. Will definitely be back, if nothing else than to try to soak up some of the encyclopedic knowledge Jason has on the area and its history.

A great wee exhibition centre with a very knowledgeable curator in Jason who obviously lives and breaths Tain past and present.

Having visited Tain Through Time previously, we wanted to revisit it. You must prebook at the moment. We had a delightful visit spending a long time chatting with Sheila and Jason who are both so knowledgeable. The museum is in 3 parts, the Church, the main centre and a small museum in the grounds. The main museum has mainly interpretation boards about the history of the Church, all extremely interesting. After we had been round this exhibition, Jason took us over to the small museum and explained a lot about the history of silver making in Tain and several other exhibitions.
We then went and looked round the Church which Jason had told us about. An outstanding visit to a small hidden gem.

First, Jason was awesome! He is so knowledgeable and eager to share. We were traveling with someone whose ancestor was born here in the 1600’s and he was enthralled to have the chance to learn so much about his Ross family. There is an ancient small church, a graveyard with graves going back to Viking times and a small museum. Definitely a must see.

Museums are often only as good as not only the artefacts held in them but the enthusiasm of the staff that run them. Having visited tain through tiome recently i cannot fault the absolute dedication of jason who gave us a very useful tour of the church and museum. He had excellent local knowledge and was very informative. The museum isnt massive but the displays are very well done and well worth a visit

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit here today. Delightful member of staff called Sheila went to great trouble to show us around and she was so very knowledgeable and interesting. Significant history for such a small town, royal, religious, silver-smithing. Well presented, and interesting for children and adults.

Don’t tell the locals, but although I am Scottish, I’d never been to Tain before and had no idea of how historically important is is. Our visit to Tain Through Time certainly put that right, and the gentleman on duty was so passionate about the town and it’s history, that there was hardly any need to visit the site after we met him!

The site is in three parts, and after the main building you visit the old Kirk and the museum, and altogether they provide a very good visitor experience, and tell the story of Tain in considerable detail.

We didn't allow ourselves enough time here, and another problem was that the site was very understaffed and the custodian kept having to go to lock and unlock the museum and Pilgrimage so was a bit preoccupied and we weren't able to get much information from her on local history. That said, we liked the Tain silver and the items in the museum which illustrated the history of the town and the importance of the Ross clan. The Pilgrimage introduced us to a saint we were totally unfamiliar with and his importance to Tain as an object of pilgrimage. We found the church a little severe but did like the Art & Crafts style stained glass with its horticultural themes. There were some interesting memorials some of which shed light on the religious turmoil in Scotland through the ages. All in all the 3 components of the site provide a lot of information in an accessible manner.
