The South Carolina Botanical Gardens is a great place to visit for anyone. The gardens feature many vibrant and colorful plants and many scenic sites such as the duck pond and various bridges. The Botanical Gardens also feature some historical sites and plaques to add to the ever lasting history of the area. Deep in the gardens you can also view the Hanover House which I highly recommend. The Hanover house features some pretty cool historical artifacts and depictions of what life was like at that time. All in all the South Carolina Botanical gardens is a must visit if your in the area, and there is no cost to walk the trails and view what the gardens have to offer.

Love the Geology Museum on a hot August day. Fun for my family group ages 9 to 75. The desert plant life surrounding the museum is amazing. Another favorite is the Mountain to Sea ecosystems trail. Complete with carnivorous plants! I also enjoy the main visitors center adjacent to the Geology Museum. Both have a small store where you can purchase anything from a small souvenir to fancy books or impressive expensive geology finds. Wonderful day for all. Bathrooms are located behind the main visitor Center in a separate building behind the original Southern Living Concept Home and its perfectly maintained lawn and gardens. Beautiful!

I find humor in nature. I'm always visualizing a conversation.
So when I visit the South Carolina Botanical Gardens, I usually find enough subject matter.

The garden is about 2 hours from 'A' Town, up I-85. There are several great sections to it, but my favorite is the pollination garden, which has plants specifically set up to attract flying things. Plus there are at least four bird feeders. Fortunately, there are some chairs present, so that you can be still and let the birds come to you.

Advantages: It is never crowded when I visit here. Although the garden office closes at 5pm, the garden is still accessible to the public. It is free!

I took these photos and embedded some humorous comments into them. Nothing saucy!

The Botanical Gardens was not what we expected. Other places have extensive floral plots. We had limited time, the teperature was 100 degrees, and so did not visit the visitors center but just drove through the park. It was popular with walkers and had lots of trees, grass, and brush, but little in the way of flowers. The price is right--free--and we may give it another try on a return visit.

Wife and I visited here on June 15, 2023. It was a gorgeous day to be outside. There are several different garden areas, a walking trail through the woods, a visitor center, and a small museum called the Geology Museum. It had mostly rocks and minerals which were fascinating, plus some fossils and dinosaur-type stuff. My favorite part was the little darkroom where you see the glow-in-the-dark minerals under black light. There's a visitor center with a small gift shop too, plus a caboose, a 200-year-old cabin, and a few ponds with ducks and turtles. It's a pretty good workout to walk the place.

I visited the Gardens on a pleasant April Saturday afternoon. I enjoyed walking back & forth between the visitor's center & Geology museum area and the duck pond & interpretative center area. I used both the main trail and a couple of the other trails. The trails were relatively level. Many plants were labeled and the many signboards gave provided good descriptions. There was plenty of free parking. Didn't see any guides or free-floating interpreters. The grounds were well maintained.

Visiting the entire gardens could happily take over 3 hours.

The geology museum was a pleasant surprise. One hour would probably be the most most people would need to enjoy this small space.

We only had an hour and a half to spend there and didn’t even see half of the gardens. The kids (8-11 age range) loved the geology museum and the trail to get there. They didn’t want to leave! It was pretty empty when we arrived at 9:30am but lots more cars in the parking lot at 11am.

I've visited many gardens and this is one of my faves. And it's free!! Can't beat that. Lots of shaded swings to relax on. Beautiful new veranda over the duck pond- perfect for kids. Beautiful paved, gravel and natural trails throughout. You could spend a whole day visiting this place; bring a lunch!
