Ho adorato e ammirato questo edificio e la sua architettura. Penso che sia una delle poche belle strutture della città che vale la pena ammirare!

La buona notizia è che questo maestoso edificio progettato da H. H. Richardson (una figura monumentale nell'architettura americana ...) è ancora in gran parte intatto (non c'è da meravigliarsi ...). La cattiva notizia è che è ancora operativo il Tribunale di Giustizia di Alleghany! Non si può più entrare dalla magnifica porta frontale e dalle scale. . . uno ora entra attraverso una porta di servizio al piano terra, che includerà il consueto controllo di sicurezza del tribunale (si pensi agli aeroporti ...). Quindi dovrai salire le scale laterali per arrivare al piano di ingresso reale. . . che è ancora magnifico! (Qualcuno, per favore, dica ai direttori della struttura di usare le lampadine elettriche incandescenti storiche invece delle disgustose nuove lampadine a LED bianche!)!) Assicurati di visitare anche il cortile. . . la fontana (compresa la parte inferiore ornamentale del suo bacino superiore ...) è maginifica. . . godere!

Nightmare experience.

This is sadly a very old and dirty building that criminal court is held and other offices are. Can’t imagine what travelers think coming here.

Loved and admired this building and its architecture. I do think it is one of the few beautiful structures in the city worth admiring!

A must see for architects and historians!

The good news is that this majestic building designed by H. H. Richardson (a monumental figure in American Architecture...) is still largely intact (no small wonder...).
The bad news is that it is still an operating Alleghany Couny Courthouse!
One can no longer enter by the magnificent processional front door and stairs...one now enters through a ground level service door, which will include the customary courthouse security check (think airports...).

Then you'll have to navigate up the side stairways to get up to the real entry floor...which is still magnificent! (Someone please tell the facility managers to star using the historic incandescant electric lightbulbs instead of the disgusting new cool white LED bulbs!!!)
Make sure you also visit the courtyard...the fountain (including the ornamental underside of its upper basin...) is maginificent...enjoy!

Amazing architecture

H. H. Richarson was one of the first great American architects. His style, called Richardson Romanesque, is characterized by — among other things — arches, use of heavy stone, high pitched roofs, and towers. Among his many notable works is the Boston Trinity Catherdral. He came to Pittsburgh in the early 1880s to design and construct the Allegheny County Courthouse and Jail. He said it would be his greatest work. He died a few years before its completion, but his associates completed it true to his designs. You must start in the courtyard and read the excellent primer they have displayed before entering the building itself. It is simply a beautiful building.
Ignore any reviews that comment about doing business or security. The real story and draw is the building itself.....truly a 19th. century gem.

Security at this building is a joke

I had to open my brief case and go thru a metal detector and empty my pockets all the while some one that the three guards knew just walked around everything and breezed thru the checkpoint with just a wave. When I asked why there was a double standard for their security procedure they just laughed at me and told me to mind my own business. I don't care if they knew this guy, anyone can snap. Either enforce their security procedures or get rid of them and save a bunch of money paying them for not doing their jobs.
The building is a very nice example of H. H. Richardson Romanesque Revival style architecture. The outdoor courtyard in the center of the building is a relaxing place to sit and listen to the fountain on a summer day.

So much history

Made my way uptown with my family to see the Courthouse. My son-in-law and granddaughter, being history buffs were fascinated. Many years of history and the ramp where the prisoners were taken to jail. All of the years I worked up town and passed it on a daily basis, I did not know there is a lovely courtyard and fountain behind the walls. A must see for those interested in history.

Здание суда и тюрьмы в центре Питтсбурга

Очень красивое здание суда в центре Питтсбурга. Над улицей есть каменный мост во второе здание тюрьмы. Интересное историческое место. К сожалению не было возможности остановиться и попасть внутрь во время автомобильной экскурсии по Питтсбургу.

現役の裁判所の建物で、ピッツバーグ市が推進している歴史的建造物保存の対象とされていました。ダウンタウンの地区にあってはかなり古い建物であると同時に、ロマネスク様式の建築が異彩を放っており、周りとの違いが大変特徴的でした。一般の見学も一部可能なようですが、外国人観光客にとっては公的機関に入るのは気が引けるので、外観を眺めただけで諦めました。
