My visit to the Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre last week with a large group was really enjoyable. Julie provided our group with an excellent tour of the Margaret Olley collection and 'Know my name', a touring exhibition from the National Gallery of Australia. This tour had been pre-booked because of the size of the group but I understand that free tours are available to the public (check the gallery website for days/times). Heather also gave an excellent short tour of works by Monet (Haystacks, midday), Olley & Morandi which are also visiting from the NGA.
We all had a pre-ordered (because of the group size) lunch at the cafe with good food, wine and efficient friendly service with the most beautiful view from an art gallery cafe in Australia.
Don't forget to purchase some raffle tickets from the Friends of the Gallery in the foyer. They are raising money to purchase a new work.

Always an amazing gallery to see and experience what new delights they have acquired. This time saw the last of the Monet, plus spent a few hours in the Margaret Olley Centre - a feast for the senses and just delighted that the director was pro active enough to get this wonderful collection for the Tweed Gallery instead of Lismore - what a loss it would have been after the floods. Also, a really good shop, well priced and interesting items. Enjoyed a superb lunch with friends who drove down from Brisbane - nice menu and good service.

It was a wonderful space both in door and outdoor to wonder through, Margaret Ollys studio, was a wonderful mix of colour and delight. We also had an excellent lunch at the Cafe with outstanding views.

A nice regional gallery with the Margaret Olley collection and recreation of some rooms from her Sydney home the highlight. Parking underneath the building which fills up quickly. There’s a cafe here too and one Monet ‘Haystacks’ on display for a few months.

I have had the privilege of visiting many regional galleries and the Tweed Gallery tops the list. So many exhibitions!!! Plus a lovely cafe with great service, food, excellent coffee and a view to die for. Highly recommended.

We were passing through and had limited time. As we've been here once before and have seen Margaret's excellent 'house' in the gallery, we wanted to see the other exhibitions. Margaret's 100 year exhibition was ok, but we were very impressed with the current photographic competition display, as well as the ceramic display.
This is a wonderful gallery, and it's a shame we live so far away, otherwise we'd be regular visitors. The views of the surrounding landscape from the gallery and the excellent cafe are just wonderful.
The gallery's an asset to Murwillumbah, and next time, we'll try and stay in the lovely town overnight.

Other than escaping a Melbourne winter, we came to the Gold Coast to visit HOTA and to acknowledge what would have been Margaret Olley’s 100th birthday at the Tweed Heads Gallery. The re-creation of her Paddington home within the gallery is very clever and accurate having watched the documentary you can view in the library. Margaret Olley spent her childhood in the area and donated $1M to the gallery which enabled this wing to be put onto the existing gallery. As the Queen of Still Lifes you understand how she used her home as the inspiration for her works.
Also found the Jacqui Stockdale exhibition very interesting and enlightening. Staff at the gallery are very welcoming.

Improve quality of exhibits Margaret Ollies works are fine
Poorly painted oversized Portrait Heads are not well done. Evidence of poor Art training.Contemporary Art exhibits are a waste of time and that space could be better utilised with better works

Thank you for your review. The Gallery has a diverse and changing exhibition program, offering something different for everyone. Free guided tours are also offered at 11.30am daily to offer further insight into each exhibition.

After walking the Northern Rivers Rail Trail this was such a beautiful spot to have coffee & morning tea. The Canadian Toastie wasn’t that great but still quite nice & the chocolate mousse cake was good but it’s the view that’s to die for. Could just sit there for hours soaking it all in.

Thank you for your review. We are delighted that the Northern Rivers Rail Trail is attracting visitors like yourself to the Gallery. The cafe operate as a seprate business to the Gallery, but I will be sure to pass your feedback onto the operators.

The whole Gallery's exhibitions are always varied and wonderful, especially the ongoing Margaret Olley presentation, love it !
This time, although one exibition was based on Women in Art ,the introductory comments were overly biased against males and quite a put down.Also, under the mention of the origin of each artist's birth place it has been converted to the name of the local indigenous people of that area. I don't know what that had to do with things. In all of the galleries I have visited across the world I have never seen these biases. Disappointing, especially for such a great gallery.

'The Female Gaze' features self-portraits and portraits of women by women artists. Drawn entirely from the Tweed Regional Gallery collection, the exhibition includes both historical and contemporary works of art.
Throughout art history, female subjects have been portrayed through the male gaze. This exhibition attempts to subvert the male perspective, while making space for female artists to have authorship over their own stories and representation.
The exhibition also allows us to ask the question: Is there something innately different about the way women portray female subjects?
In an effort to pay respect to our First Nations people, the Gallery acknowledges the indigenous place names where artists were born on artwork labels for works from the Gallery collection.
