A must visit. Where blanket trade was held for years
nov 2019 • Solo
Really nice historic place: the old Blanket Hall. It has a small museum, a nice coffee shop with good pies and drinks, and a great shop with a selection of wool blankets, scarfs and nice small gifts. And a looovely garden with the river. A must visit

'A loooovely garden' indeed! And a river as well when you get to the bottom of it. And, as patriciadC1757BG will know, lots of chairs and tables to sit awhile and enjoy your coffee. Ah bliss!

Great blanket selection. Pies not bad too!

The blanket shop is a nod to Witney’s past as the centre of the blanket making industry. Good selection of bed blankets and throws with really knowledgeable & non-pushy help from staff. Walk through the back door and there’s the pie shop, where daily there’s great warm pies, soups and great coffee.

Interesting museum, disappointing Pie Shop.
mar 2020 • Amici
The blanket hall and museum were interesting and the rooms atmospheric. We could imagine the world of blankets, their quality and necessity before duvets became the ' norm.' The lady on duty in the shop was helpful and we were pleased with our purchases.
At the rear of the hall is the 'Pie Shop'. The home made products looked inviting and the pies smelt delicious. However, we opted for the cheese scones and cafeteria of coffee. So disappointing! The scones were very hot rather than warm and were doughy. I could see the cheese but not taste it. The coffee was grey and weak. If we hadn't had to catch a bus we would have complained. Not a good end to an otherwise pleasant visit.

Oh goodness me, I wish you had complained! If there was anything wrong, we would have put it right in a trice. I go there every Sunday morning for coffee, and I love it. I tend to have a giant toasted crumpet and butter... But I do sometimes have a cheese scone, and it tastes pretty good. I know we sell a jolly lot of them, 'janice s', and when you come again... The coffee and cheese scones are on me!

Unexpected Gem
ott 2019
Within the blanket hall you find a lovely shop to purchase wool blankets, hats, scarves, socks and other items, but the hidden gem is the museum and history of the wool trade in Witney. They also have a cafe serving hot or cold lunch options and delights both savory and sweet to enjoy with a cuppa. Don't miss out on this hidden gem.

An interesting small museum with a shop selling blankets and scarves. Lovely welcoming staff. Best part is the pie cafe at the rear of the building

Well, now, 429jmb... I think we made you happy. You liked the 'interesting small museum' and 'lovely welcoming staff, and noticed the shop, with the blankets and scarves, and your way to loving the 'pie cafe'. Sounds good to me... But only 3 stars? Anyway, do please come back.

We stopped by and browsed all the lovely blanket selection. Staff was very friendly and shared details and history about the blankets. We left with two for our house, both gorgeous!

A unique alternative
set 2019
We were visiting Witney on a bright but chilly Autumn afternoon, badly needing some tea and were near the Blanket Hall which, we had heard, contained a nice Cafe. So we entered, finding ourselves in a heritage center, dedicated to the 300 year old history of the World renowned Witney Blanket, the weavers and the wool of this Cotswold industry.
First to the Cafe for some tea, located at the back with garden and a high walled courtyard where we sat to consume a delightful traditional scone tea with brown teapot and all the trimmings. The high walls insulated us from the chilly breeze and town noise. Above , the clear blue sky was unblemished, except for the occasional huge RAF transporter flying into Brize Norton. A real afternoon treat.

After tea we spent some time in the heritage centre and wool shop. The Blanket Hall itself, built in 1721 regulated the craft of Witney blanket weaving under Royal Charter for 150 years. The next 150 years have seen the hall used for many things, a history in itself.
Like most towns, Witney has it's fair share of coffee bars, pubs and other eateries. The Cafe at the Blanket Hall makes a great alternative for a coffee, snack or traditional lunch or tea, or even a glass of wine or Blanket Hall's own beer or cider. Together with the (privately funded) heritage centre, a very unique establishment.
Well worth a visit if you are in the area and, unlike most towns, parking is FREE in Witney.

… And who would not be completely happy with this review? Torontes, you have visited, looked around, and completely understood what we are about. Fantastic, and thank you. Next time I am designing a new woollen throw, or re-jigging a corner of the Blanket Hall... I shall call on you for the right way to go. For in a few words, you hit the bullseye! Thank you again.

A nice way to spend an hour or so.
set 2019
As you would expect from a town which was once the centre of blanket industry there is,albeit quite small, a museum given over to that part of the towns history - The Witney Blanket Hall, once the HQ of the Company of Blanket Makers. It now houses the museum, a shop and a restaurant specialising in pies! Well worth a visit.

Well, thank for finding us, Travellingman6, and thanks for noticing that we like, and are all about, Witney Blankets. And, of course, thanks for noticing that we specialise in pies. The Hall was built and thrived in the 18th century... And what says '18th century' more clearly than a big, hearty, English Pie. Do come again, and send all your firnds

Historic building and exhibits which chart the history of blanket making in the town. Entry is free, with optional donation. Small gift shop with local produce including blankets and beer. Is a pie shop and cafe at the rear for refreshments.
