Percect place to have family time.

We visited over the weekend and were amazed by the shear beauty of the forest and the surrounding country side. One of the nicest places I have been to,

B*GGER!! No More Rock!
ago 2014 • Solo
The organisers of this event have apparently given up trying to build the rock night up, and are now billing it as 70's versus 80's ( Fri. v Sat. ). On the bill are Sister Sledge, Boney M, Real Thing, Hot Chocolate, Oddysey. Which is not a bad line up of that sort of thing but I want Rock! I doubt it will go that well - the reason the other was not massively attended ( I think ) is due to it being on a Friday, people are at work etc. I might go along, see if the wife fancies it, it's not really my thing but it would be interesting to see how many! And it's on the doorstep.

Good show again, but not as good as last year
ago 2014 • Amici
Still good and worth going, but I thought only 3 bands for similar money was disappointing. No booze/food police this year, Hooray! We were a bit p*ssed that Parfitt was missing, with very little prior notice and a load of b*ll*x hype in a feeble attempt to cover this up / deflect criticism. No offer of refund, there were a few people who expressed the opinion that they would have liked the option to have their money back and see the 'full' band at Nottingham later. Still, a good evening was had by all, everyone as usual got into the swing and Quo are good for this as always. The usual decent beer and snap, very good toilet facilities. Still recommend it to anyone, see you there next year! Bands this year - Toseland Babajack StatusQuo Last year's lineup - Michael Chapman Snakecharmer ( 2nd best of night for me - surprisingly ) Caravan Asia ( 1st ) Family

Relive the Prog Rock Life
ago 2013 • Amici
As with any music festival/event how good it is depends on your age and musical tastes. A one band concert is easy, no like, no go. An event like this with around half a dozen acts may not have an ideal line up for you, but if you keep an open mind, it is at worst a chance to sit out and listen to some good live music. At best, and (for me) it's a chance to see some of the icons of my generation who despite getting older can still do the business. Hair may be shorter or absent and it's not pop it's proper prog rock and the like. A Friday evening with friends and a drink sitting on your deck chair in the company of Curved Air, Hawkwind, Strawbs, Focus, Caravan and Family to name some is like time travel to a pre Cowell era.
Thijs van Leer may look like the Skeggy fisherman and there's no Jan Akkerman but the music is alive and kicking.
The negatives are the fact it's a friday and a tea time start so the working person misses the early part. I have the day off to go and it's near home for me so ok.
You have to buy ALL your food and drink in the arena, even water and they will search your bag it's ok and not cheap but not a mega rip off.
The toilets are good, it's not overcrowded so a good view is easy even when you take your own deckchair (allowed) as there is a very slight slope to the area, don't forget to turn around and view the sunset also.
Take your camera as well, these guys don't need to protect their image its already iconic.

Great To Be Here
ago 2013 • Solo
Obviously it depends on which groups are playing, personal preferences, but this is a great set up. Only around a thousand here so far, so is not well attended really, but that means plenty of space and you can wander down the front when you want, off to the stalls, sit down again. The only drawback is that unlike the following night, the 80's do, you are not allowed to take in food or drink. The 'booze police' are on patrol and have words with anyone they catch. I personally find this pathetic, but I have spoken to the office and they explained that due to the small numbers, they have to make some money somewhere, and they obviously get a percentage of the take. Apart from the annoying booze police going up and down in front of you, you'll have a good time, usually no rain and was still warm this year, should be, as it's august, but it's no guarantee. Plenty of parking / camping, but book it early. Considering how much land is a available, I can't see how they run out, but they do, so book early. Subscribe to the site and see what groups are coming, get yersen down!
