Did this drive with a group of families, lots of fun kids loved it especially driving though the busted lagoon. Saw lots of wildlife, dolphins and a washed up shark. Unfortunately the northern end viewing the WWII building is closed and we needed to do a 5km beach walk to see them and they are quite damaged by time and bushfires but wore the kids out and they still had fun. We also had to return down the beach to the southern point as northern access road is closed.

What I like most about this place is the wild-life and coastal bush. It's incredible that Bribie is home to so many precious (endangered) species including dugongs, turtles, swift parrots etc. the list goes on and on. However, by allowing people to access this place, under controlled conditions, people can see first hand and come to value, what we are at risk of losing. Having said that, most people recognise and respect the beauty and fragility of this place and do abide by the rules to preserve this place (and avoid the hefty fines!) Most are careful not to go into the dunes where turtles might be nesting, stay on the tracks and only use the facilities provided by QPWS and, show respect for their fellow drivers. People need to go easy on the rangers too! They are only doing their job and work with limited resources to enforce rules that have become necessary due to the harms done through the recklessness of some individuals, to the area, its wildlife and even resulting the death of one unfortunate individual. Enjoy! and continue to look after this very precious place.

Right on Brisbane’s doorstep and yet undiscovered by many is Bribie Island and it’s beautiful National Park which covers much of the Island.
Only an hour from Brisbane and accessible by 4WD only, the Bribie Island National Park has a variety of camp sites, abundant wildlife, a 30km stretch of ocean beach (perfect for fishing, boating, swimming and surfing) and a rich WWII history including the relics of Fort Bribie, which marked the eastern point of the famous Brisbane Line and protected Brisbane from enemy ships and submarines. There is something for everyone.

We camped at Poverty Creek and took our 4wd on the beach during the day. Lots of fun, few people getting bogged. “Ocean Camping” right by the beach would be the best place to stay if you have a 4wd. Just make sure you take mozzie repellent!!

You can drive right up to Caloundra there are some great camp sites up there.
Ensure you get a Council permit Ningi bait & tackle on Bribie Rd sell these and are good to get some local knowledge from. The WW2 gun replacements are being destroyed slowly so go see them. Several lagoons along the way. It's a good day out driving along the beach. Keep an eye on tide times.

This beach is beautiful, camping spots available. Remember to get your permit before driving on the beach. Some grate WW2 structures still standing along the beach.

4wd drives only!! There are two tracks - one up the middle of the island, and one along the beach. They interconnect near the stop of the island, so you can do a big loop. The beach access at Woorim is approx 1km of soft and hard sand.
We visited on a Sunday , and while busy, we had no problems pulling up at one of the lagoons and setting up for the day. The weather was brilliant, and the water (both in the lagoon and in the ocean) was a great temperature. The kids had lots of fun splashing about in the water, and digging in the sand.
This is a very popular place, and remember to get your beach permit - I've seen the ranger each time I've visited here.

We made the mistake of taking our dog on a day trip, where we had planned to go 4x4 driving up the beach at Bribie Island. Paid our money for a beach permit which is $49.50 for 7 days or less and off we went. We arrived at the parking area just before the woorim beach access track, where we excitedly began to let the tyre pressures down ready for our drive up the beach. Admittedly I made a mistake by not seeing the small sign at the tracks entrance that said no domestic animals allowed, but about 100 metres down the track we saw a huge road works sign that said NO DOGS ALLOWED. We considered turning around on the track but i felt that it was unsafe to do so because the sand was so soft and the track was only big enough to do a three point turn and with the heavy flow of 4wds following us down the track it wasn't a good option. However the track has a larger parking/ turning area at the end so i proceeded to this area to turn around safely. The rangers/revenue collectors were waiting at the end of the track checking all vehicles so i proceeded straight up to the ranger to explain my mistake of not seeing the sign until we were on the track and to assure her that we were just turning around and leaving immediately. She was joined by another ranger/revenue collector and proceeded to grill me on how dogs weren't allowed and that i should had turned straight around on the track. They would not listen to the fact that i felt it unsafe to turn around on the track, and ultimately issue me with a fine of $130 . At no point did my dog leave the vehicle or even come out of the harness with which she was strapped into her seat belt restraint, which means that she posed absolutely no harm to the park or the wildlife there. We left there angry and with my partner in tears feeling like we had been treated like criminals. I now have zero respect for the Qld parks and wildlife ranger/revenue collectors, and feel appalled that they value the money raised from a fine more highly than the safety of the people using the parks that they patrol, especially where I did the honest thing by approaching them to explain my mistake and my dog did not even leave the confines of the vehicle and posed not threat. Such a misguided use of power, towards a situation that could have been rectified with an official warning rather than just plain old revenue raising. You have lost my support for ever..
