DO NOT go hiking or driving here unless you’ve done your homework, checked it twice, have a 4-wheel drive vehicle, and have a high tolerance for risk while on the road. Trails are NOT well marked! This is the case everywhere in these “Geosites” in Nova Scotia. Worse yet, the road recommended to us by park staff with no qualifications or questions asked turned out to be a one-lane gravel road with multiple bridges that definitely would not pass a safety inspection. Said road takes 40 minutes one way to the Three Sisters area. It is the only way into or out of this spot by car until the bridge on the north side is repaired. Do not go to Three Sisters by car til after that bridge is back in use. The trip there was one of the scariest of my life, and I grew up on gravel roads and prairie roads in the middle of nowhere. If Nova Scotia authorities read this, please alert park staff to stop use of this one-lane gravel road with no margins for error! DANGER!

We're not hikers, so we only went to Red Rocks, but it was an incredible place to explore and watch how quickly the tides change. We would have stayed longer if it hadn't been for all the biting insects (I'm still itchy days later)!

First time hiking Cape Chignecto, and I experienced every hikers worst nightmare....growing up on the shores of the Bay of Fundy I thought I was pretty savvy when it came to knowing the tides...I was so wrong! I went to explore a beach I saw off the trail. I sat my backpack against some rocks and climbed up a few meters on the rocks to enjoy the view...I got too wrapped up in the view and looked down to see my backpack riding a current out to sea. Everything except my sleeping bag, tent and sleeping pad were in that pack. I literally ran 7km back to the visitor centre. I went home knowing that I just lost about $2000 in equipment, including my pack. My Garmin inReach Mini 2 was clipped onto my pack. 4 hours later people on my MapShare got a ping, and it continued updating every 4 hours, despite the fact that it was floating in the ocean. I called the park, and then gave them access to my MapShare through Garmin. My packed seemed to be going in and out with the waves in a cove near where I lost it, and it was uncertain whether this cove was even accessible by land. Allen and Millard from the park actually went out that day at low tide and tracked my pack through my Garmin. I didn't have a prayer to ever see that pack again, but these 2 men went above and beyond to retrieve my belongings. I have no words to say how grateful I am to the park staff. I learned a valuable lesson to never underestimate the ocean, even as someone who should have known better. Even more, I learned that this park has amazing staff who will do whatever it takes to help you. Also, the park is beyond stunning!! Thank you again to Allen and Millard...you are 2 exceptional human beings!!!

We are a young family who wanted a bit of day hiking. When we arrived at the park entrance, the gracious experts kindly advised that the southern area was best suited for back country camping and sent us up to Eatonville Day-Use Park.
Eatonville Day-Use was fantastic! We got four mini-hikes in before the kiddos tired out. Each section had a great info sign so we learnt cultural and geological facts. A great day of low-stress hiking and sparkling vistas!
Tips
1) We drove, as recommended, from the park entrance at the southern tip up to Eatonville Day-Use along the dirt sideroad. It was bUmPy. Next time, we would take the paved Eatonville Road.
2) We went in June: bring insect repellent or wear bug jackets.
3) There are some steep cliffs. Consider whether that selfie is worth calling EMS for because you toppled over and are now stuck.

So it wasn't the quite the trip we planned.... After a beautiful and peaceful starry night at Christie Fields, we couldn't have asked for a more perfect first day hiking to Refugee Cove. Some steep climbs for sure, but stunning views and beautiful forest. Once our tent was pitched we took our camp stove to the beach and ate supper watching the sunset. Unfortunately, the next morning, one of our party woke up having dizzy spells and trouble balancing, so a 19km hike with a heavy pack looked like it was out of the question for her. Once we were sure things weren't going to improve, we had to call for help. The staff were all understanding, super-kind and helpful. We felt so bad and thoroughly disappointed in not being able to continue, but we can't thank the staff enough. I will definitely be back to finish what I started!

First time being in the park area this summer. A group of us booked the group campground, which had some confusion on pricing - we thought it was per site and ended up having to pay per tent when we got there. I was able to get to the site with my little two door hatchback, but it was a rough road and not paved. Another friend ended up with a flat tire. I arrived in the daylight, but some friends came later and it's almost impossible to find in the dark and there aren't many signs or good cell service.
The sites are pretty isolated though and have nice little walks to get to them, although you have to carry all your stuff in because they are not drive up. Best to bring your own drinking water too. Unfortunately for us there was a fire ban in the park, so for two nights we sat around a lantern and cooked on a grill to keep warm. We had colder than normal August nights. All that aside, the park is very nice and we did a few day hikes. Some were quite steep, but the views are worth it. We all talked about going back some day to do the full back country hiking trail.

The beaches are just beautiful. The hike is steep, but well worth it if you can handle it. We will be going back. We just did a day trip

We drove to the Cape Chignecto Park from Parrsboro on a very picturesque road: green hills, little lakes, bright yellow wild flowers... We arrived at the park in 45 minutes, took the hiking maps and started our hikes.
TIP: if you are just looking for the red rocks and ocean views, do not take long hikes: they are right there - a short walk from the Visitor Center and the parking lot (day parking is free). We embarked on the longer hike and mostly walked in thick woods with no views; after maybe 2 miles of steady uphill walk, we kind of lost our way and turned back. We brought some light snacks with us for lunch which we enjoyed at one of many picnic tables. The views of the Bay of Fundy with Cape Chignecto at the distance were breathtaking. After lunch, we headed to the beach and walked on the beautiful red rocks at low tide. The colors were absolutely breathtaking... bright red rocks, blue sky without a single cloud and turquoise waters of the ocean are a photographer's dream.

Where are people's recommended camping sites if you want to do a night or two and get the best of what the park offers?

We are planning on hiking the coastal trail and many have suggested a 4 day/3 night itinerary would be best. Any suggestions as to how to break up the hike and which campsites to spend the night at would be appreciated. Thanks

Good question.
53 kilometers of trails and 4 days.
we came in high off Eatonville
choosing to go down from three sisters.
4 days 3 nights are pretty packed.
I would give an extra day to set up and cool down
around base camp.
the trec back up from mill Brook to
Eatonvile Will prove challenging.
good luck worth every second on the trails

I tried to post a link to answer your question but unfortunately we're not allowed to do that. If you do a Google search - can you hike Cape Chignecto in the off season - for example, you'll find the info. They even provide a phone no. for the off season. My husband and I were at the Eatonville entrance a couple of weeks ago and found the Welcome Centre closed but we still had a great hike on the trails.
