We were lucky enough to visit the antiques gallery in the last few days before it is packed up and sold off.

We were treated to a thorough and informative summary of the fascinating history of this iconic South Australian collection by the property owner Mark (noting that the art collection is being sold be descendants of the Thumm family)

It is truly heartbreaking that this collection will be sold interstate and likely split up. A tragedy that ArtsSA or SA Heritage could not fund this ongoing collection to remain in Australia

Sadly future visitors will not be able to experience this jewel of history. Instead there is a gift shop, coffee and some accommodation….I do worry that business will be harder for the property owners now that the art gallery is no more

We stayed in the hotel for a few days while visiting the Barossa. We were initially surprised as the place is run down, and looks like someone put a lot of thought in but has let the gardens go a little. The motel itself is very basic and could do with a revamp, but is warm, safe and everything did what it should. For the price point, it’s perfectly fine.
Would love to see the place “revamped”

We came for the high tea. This was our second time both on free State Government vouchers. It is a pleasant drive out from Adelaide.
Didn't do the museum tour this time as we took it in Oct 2021. The guide is knowledgeable and enthusiastic but frankly the items in the collection did not really interest us much and we exited the tour early to partake of the high Tea.
On both trips the savouries and sweets presented were adequate in quantity and quite enjoyable.
I have read of others having problems with the scones. Today ours were 10/10. Served hot, they were light almost fluffy and delicious. They had rose petals included in the scone mix which was a first for me. They were served with a lovely jam and a very generous amount of perfect whipped cream. Maybe the best scones I have had.
The choice of to bubbly wines at the beginning were adequate.
The staff were very friendly and customer focused however it was fairly busy and we did a bit of waiting but no drama.
The coffee like on the first visit was bloody awful. Not hot enough, tasted rough and burnt and after one sip sat in the cup unconsumed. The tea and coffee are a big fail and spoil the whole high tea experience to a significant degree.
The building is a plastic knockoff of some European Chateau. Fake fibreglass Grecian columns. Decor is like you would expect in an Eastern European building.
Rose garden was opened by the Queen in 2002 but now looks somewhat unkept.
Buildings and grounds show need for a lot of overdue repairs and maintenance.
My advice would be ask for a teabag in your cup or bring a jar of instant coffee as the hot drinks are a high tea killer.

Thanks to the Great State voucher we chose to do High Tea at the Barossa Chateau. It was the most amazing and beautiful experience. The setting was stunning, the food and moscato was delicious and the staff were so beautiful and friendly. I highly highly recommend everyone to take a trip there and experience this beautiful experience. I know I will do it again. PS they also have a beautiful gift shop

Enjoyed our first high tea ever thanks to SA Tourism voucher. The husband and wife who run the venture are to be commended for their positive and friendly welcome and their smooth operation. A very enjoyable morning with the tour lasting for about 45 min and then a tasty high tea served once again by friendly staff in very pleasant surroundings. Why only 4 stars and not 5? Probably only the thought that we may not have done it without our voucher. However if you are a fan of high tea and art and porcelain, then this is definitely for you.

Disappointing high Tea, food was below average and not fresh. Some Scones where like pancakes , bread for sandwiches was dry/stale, it was like eating someone's left overs from the day before

Wonderful experience.
Well worth a visit. Take a tour or just enjoy the generous High Tea.
Excellent customer service from the friendly staff and well researched guided tour of the grand ballroom housing the porcelain and art collection.

Loved all the extra trimmings..

My daughter booked a high tea and tour at the Barossa Chateau Lyndoch with the SA travel voucher. It was a great experience, first up was a comprehensive tour and talk of the porcelain collection and history of the Chateau.
The highlight of the afternoon was the High Tea, delectable savouries and sweets and a glass of bubbles. A walk around the grounds rounded of the afternoon.
Pleasant , helpful staff. A great afternoon.

My daughter scored an Experience Voucher from SA Tourism and a day out at Barossa Chateau was my treat. Why Barossa Chateau? Two reasons: it has an outstanding porcelain collection with significant pieces from Meissen, Dresden, Limoges etc and we love museums, and this business is Australian-owned and run.

On arrival at 1 pm we joined a tour of the art & porcelain museum - a large hall with ample natural light as well as beautiful crystal chandeliers - filled with sumptuous antique porcelain in antique display cabinets, modern glass cases and on elaborate side tables; paintings, mirrors, antique furniture and modern paintings of flowers, native birds and animals by artist in residence Diana Mitchell. What a wonderful collection thanks to Mr Herman Thrumm. The passionate and knowledgeable commentary by our guide added to our enjoyment of the tour.

Exiting the tour after wondering around on our own to enjoy a closer examination, we were shown to the cafe adjoining the gift shop. Our little table for 2 was laid with pretty rose painted porcelain plates, tea cups and saucers with the rose theme continuing through to the paper serviettes. Roses are everywhere as they are very special to the chateau which boasts 15 acres of rose gardens.

A glass of bubbles kicked off the high tea. A sweet Pink Moscato for my daughter and a dryer Chardonnay Pinot for me. We started off with the savouries served in a 2 tier plate. There were egg, chicken and pickle finger sandwiches, frittata, cucumber rounds topped with smoked salmon and with sun dried tomato, and a caramelised onion tart was was utterly delicious.

This was followed by a 2-tier plate of sweets and a choice of bottomless coffee or tea. We chose tea. The scones, served with apricot jam and cream, were the fluffiest I’ve ever had. The scones were generously-sized and the jam and cream were more than ample. Though a little runny, the apricot jam was very tasty and I was tempted to eat it with a spoon after we “ran out” of scone! The dainty petit fours offered were berry and chocolate macarons, caramel and chocolate choux puffs, 2 wattle seed cream tarts, 2 chocolate brownies, 2 rose cup cakes and strawberries. As our friendly waitress refilled our teacups, she advised that she would be happy to pack a takeout pack for us. We took her up on the offer, and we were not the only ones who did.

We enjoyed the high tea. The service was friendly, the atmosphere relaxed and the food was fresh and tasty. The presentation was attractive but not 5-star restaurant perfect. If you expect precisely cut and perfectly aligned finger sandwiches, I’d say go to the 5-star restaurant.

Next was the gift shop. The gift shop has a big range of items from wine and wine paraphernalia, to jewellery, accessories like bags, scarves and clothing, to art prints, soaps, lotions and candles and more in a small space, but well displayed. We spent some time browsing but did not purchase.

We would have liked to wander around the gardens and the Barossa Chateau has a rose garden that is considered “internationally significant” with a collection of heritage varieties. Unfortunately, it’s August, the last official month of winter and all the roses have been cut back to ready them for spring. We will have to keep the rose “year” in mind to plan a return visit.

All in a really good day out.

Worst High tea Ever paid top price for two people and only got enough to eat for a bird. The $35 gift was disgusting not worth $5 for both. Complete rip off..never go back
