What a fantastic place in a very nice historic town of Marshall. The store is like stepping back in time with authentic items and doesn’t feel touristy. Clothing, hats, kitchen items, homemade pie and local produce. Really wonderful to see this lovely place being preserved. Stop in and support the store

What a wonderful place. Real, quality clothing at reasonable prices. Lots of American made, too. I ended up buying a book by a local author. Found a million local crafts I liked, but couldn't make up my mind. Had a wonderful talk with the friendly owner, whose family has owned this store for nearly a century. If you are near Marshall, come here, and visit the depot in the evening for authentic traditional music by talented musicians!

Truly a step back in time. We enjoyed walking around the store seeing name brand items as well as locally made goods. I enjoyed talking to the clerk about some items she had on display that a friend of hers had actually made and the success they had selling them.

Una tienda que invita a entrar, me gusto mucho el trato de la Sra. Gracias por dialogar y estar atenta a lo que buscaba. MARSHALL es un lugar.que necesita revivir y tiene personas calidas y amables. Claronque volvería.

Travel back in time in Marshall and see what a department store was like for a small town. Buy boots, overalls, jewelry or jam they have it all. A great place to stop and visit what once every small town in America had... a store that sold whatever you needed

Penland & Sons Department Store will have you questioning what year it is. All their products are well thought out, current, and present well. However, you'll swear you've stepped back in time. For those of you 70+ who lived in a small town, or in the country and had to go into town to purchase your cloths and wares, or if you're old enough to remember watching the old tv show The Walton's you'll know exactly what to expect.
I met a man at the store who was visiting with his wife. I heard him exclaiming that it looked just like he remembered from his youth when his momma would carry him there to purchase his school cloths and supplies.
Penland & Sons was the Walmart Super Store before it's time. You can purchase your canned goods, flour, and homemade jelly's and jams as well as your long johns and wool socks.
Definitely worth popping in!!

I don't know this store's history, but I'm willing to bet it has been there a long, long time! Locally made jams and pickles, local handcrafts, work clothes, quality cutlery, pretty dusters and nightgowns, all with an emphasis on USA and locally made products. Old time candies (twisted horehound), single serving muffins, traditional candy bars, are all there in addition to local produce - cabbage and tomatoes on my visit. I'm sure that changes by who brings in what! I found some wonderful handmade tea towels, embroidered in a way I hadn't seen in many years. All things are reasonably priced, and they do not accept credit or debit cards. Plan accordingly.
